Triple X vs. Triple Rec.

If your playing big venues or have a power attenuator - MESA all the way! That is a beast at a beast of a price and really very reliable - you know exactly what sound your getting and you will literally blow all the rest away. Smaller venues and recording situitions go with a dual.

The JSX is'nt as smooth as the Triple but has more bite at lower volumes, but sorry if you want balls triple, if you want teeth JSX.

I've recorded the dual and the triple (owned a triple, now have a RoadKing)... and the triple always sounded better. The extra 50w only increases the output 3db, but the extra head room is great. Also, the triple seems to be "quicker" or "tighter", it's hard to explain until you play both side by side.

I own the Triple XXX and have a 212 Avatar cab w/v30's. I have only A/B'd the XXX next to A Marshall JCM2000 and it blew away the Marshall. Although like DSS3, I am a peavey whore also. The crunch channel with an overdrive pedal is all you will ever need with the XXX.

It's funny, we quickly auditioned some heads in a store the other day and of an Engl Screamer, Boogie Rectifier, Boogie Stiletto, XXX and JCM2000 the JCM2000 sounded by far the best for hard riffing to me. I usually play an Engl Savage 120.

We didn't spend much time on dialing tones though, so maybe the others are cooler, but take more time to get setup properly. I was quite amazed at getting such a nice & heavy sound out of a stock Marshall ...

It all comes down to personal preference. See if you can put a Triple XXX next to a Mesa and test them for yourself. My opinion is biased because I love Peavey products for the price and quality and have only owned peavey's in the past. Peavey's (as well as Mesa's) are road proven and sturdy amps. Whatever comes closer to the sound you're looking for. But for the price, you can't go wrong with a Triple XXX.
