If you dig early BG, you should definitely check out Savage Circus. If you like old Angra, you should definitely hear their latest, as it is their best.

Cool. Thanks for the recommendation!

The Gathering are so supreme that thanatopsis and I have preorderd the Home cd/shirt/poster/sticker thingie

I will always give them the benefit of the doubt except for their artwork which generally sucks

That's true, their artwork has never been great. Mandylion probably has the best coverart come to think of it and it's nothing special. :(

Mandylion has a descent coverart. Still, this one's my favorite:

Since you said TRUE black metal I'm going with that.. As in actually true black metal and not posing as true with corpsepaint and using a tape recorder you found in mom's attic to record etc. (Going with that as the seriously kickass one of the two, so my vote was power metal)

I kinda forgot about this one. That's "Accessories", 2 cds of B sides, rarities and demos. some of it is excellent, some meh...but I'm a fanboi, so...

I bought the manticore cd cause some folks were raving "omg power metal sux but manticore is the shitz" and I'll just say they were nowhere near the hype. Angra rules them totally.

I could never get into Manticora. And let's just say I take my power metal (and death metal, and thrash metal, and black metal) seriously. Have to agree, Angra rules them. As does BG.

Im so damn confused, I dont even know what cheesy is anymore. I used to think bands like Manowar and Rhapsody looked silly and played over the top music, now it just sounds like really awesome metal to me. I mean, do people realize that most of these bands fans take those bands more seriously than the actually musicians themselves ?

Good point.

I think a lot of it has to do with "old school" becoming somewhat 'fashionable'* again. That applies to both image and sound.

* And I don't mean Trivium wearing Darkthrone shirts. I'm talking Usurper, D666, Desaster -- that whole style that spawned from the whole bullet belt, axe wielding, dragon killing themes of yore.

yeah but would you DIE FOR METAL?

Yea I definitely agree with that, it is seeing a rise in popularity. Seeing both bands live really floored me too, Manowar is a riot on stage, especially Joey :tickled:
