TSS, 7170, Kefir, how do put noise gate?

I always get a lot of that hissy noise when the guitars aren't playing anything. I'm recording with my Yamaha Audiogram interface with the meters barely hitting -6db when I record. Where in the chain would you recommend putting the noise gate? It sounds really bad when put at the end, so I can't decide where to put it in between effects or if to just insert it before any of the aforementioned effects.

Well, first in chain provided it's noise from electrical stuff that's coming through the pickups, if it's for gating the distortion hiss then put it between the preamp and the impulse plugin!
