Joe Gagnon (pronounced Gannon) has been a talk show host on radio and television for 20 years giving homeowners the cures for what ails their major home appliances. Always serious with a dry sense of humor, he's made friends of listeners of over 50 major radio stations across America. His unique radio program has garnered much attention from the television industry, which has featured Joe on "60 Minutes", "Prime Time", and "Good Morning America". He has authored two books: Appliance First Aid and Words and Wisdom of the Appliance Doctor, which were on the bestseller list for several weeks. His listening audience consists of not only do-it-yourselfers but also many professional people along with the CEOs of America's leading corporations. Joe Gagnon has worked as a fraud investigator with the Office of Detroit Consumer Affairs, The Michigan State Attorney General, and Michigan State Police. His assistance has helped remove the criminal content in several different industries. He continues to be an expert witness in court cases across America. Joe is a veteran of the Canadian Navy and immigrated to the United States in the early 1960s where he attended school, worked various jobs and became an executive of the Amana Refrigerator Corporation. He left corporate life and owned his own appliance repair and sales corporation for 20 years before leaving to enhance his ties with radio broadcasting.He has played some professional hockey and is a member of the Detroit Red Wing Alumni Association and laces on the skates occasionally for benefit hockey games. Joe is responsible for drafting and writing three different laws in Michigan; advertising false addresses in print, banning the use of plastic vent lines on clothes dryers and the Joe Gagnon Appliance Repair Act, named after him by government in recognition of his tireless involvement in consumer affairs, which helps prevent consumers from being ripped off by unethical repair companies. He has been a newspaper columnist for the Observer & Eccentric Newspapers for over 10 years. He has received numerous awards associated with his investigative work from different communities and organizations around the State of Michigan. He is a frequent speaker and M.C. at small and large functions.
Joe Gagnon, Graduate School of Education, and P.E. Leone had their article, “Day and Residential Schools: Program Characteristics and Entrance and Exit Policies,” published in the journal Remedial and Special Education. He gave a presentation, “Curriculum, Assessment and Accountability in Day and Residential Schools,” at the 2005 China-U.S. Education Conference in Beijing, China. With colleague L.M. Rhim, he presented “Access and Accountability for Students with Disabilities in Schools of Choice and Alternative Schools” at the 2004 Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) Research Project Directors Conference in Washington, D.C.; with colleagues K.W. Malmgren, E. Stierli and P. Maccini he presented “Policies and Teacher Practices in Residential and Day Treatment Schools for Students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders” at the same conference.
