UFC 61, 2 days to go!

I'm a little concerned about Wandy not being able to use knees and kicks to the head of a downed opponent, but I think he'll still beat Liddell. And the other thing I'm concerned about is Wandy's schedule. He's in the OWGP where he may have to fight Cro Cop, Nogueira, or Barnett. And he'll be fighting two of them in one night if he gets past the first guy. Then he has only two months to recover from these fights and get down to 205. And then if he wins the tournament, he'll have to fight Fedor in December! And then you have Liddell who fights twice a year. But Wandy's a warrior and he'll do whatever it takes. It'll be nice to show all these UFC idiots that there's a whole other world of MMA out there that they didn't know exists.

Silva is a fucking true warrior. He'll fight anyone, anywhere, anytime. By the way, NICE FUCKING AV. I use that as my display on Yahoo, AIM and MSN.

I was worried about Chuck being a bit taller than Silva, but when I think about it, Jackson was taller than Silva too, and it didn't mean shit.

I think, even though it won't be, that it should be under Pride rules. Not being able to use elbows will not hurt Chuck's game at all, not using stomps, knees and soccer kicks WILL limit Silva's game, though.

Liddell is a counter-puncher, Silva is an extreme aggressor. He will put too much preasure on Chuck for him to counter, and he'll be overwhelmed by Silva's brute strength and speed.

If one clean punch lands from either one of these guys, it's all over. Chuck can be hit and hurt, so can Silva. Neither of them have a "Mark Hunt" chin. Good chins, no doubt, but they can be hurt.

I believe Silva is much more well-rounded and a far better athlete all-around. He has a wide array of strikes that he can cripple you with, Chuck only relies on his hands. Though... they hit VERY hard.

What I'm most worried about is Silva knocking Chuck down, and out of pure instinct, kicking him in the face while he's on the ground and getting DQ'd.

I have more respect for Silva than any other fighter. He is the most exciting fighter in the world, and the bravest. Like you said, just look at his schedule! Liddell has never dared to fight a heavyweight. Silva has, and plans to take on many more, included Fedor if he gets that far.

Wanderlei Silva IS MMA.

Yeah, the thought of Silva getting DQ'd has crossed my mind. When he's fighting, instinct takes over and he does whatever it takes to KO his opponent. Check out the headbutt he gave to Guy Mezger as Pride 10. That was because he had recently been fighting in the IVC and he probably forgot where he was for a moment. And now he's been fighting under these rules with the kicks/knees to a downed opponent since Pride 13. I think it will be very tough for him to resist kneeing or kicking Chuck in the head if he drops to his knees. But maybe now we'll get to see what Wandy can do with his elbows. Being a Muay Thai fighter, I'm sure they're just as vicious as his knees.

And I think Silva has a better chin than people give him credit for. He gets rocked in nearly every fight, but he never actually gets KO'd (aside from the Belfort fight which happened a couple decades ago). He recovers the moment he hits the floor. Mark Hunt, probably one of the hardest punchers out there, hit Silva with everything he had and couldn't knock him out. Liddell has been knocked down by Mezger, Pele, and Rampage, but not knocked out. So I think they're pretty even in the chin department.

I think it will come down to stamina, where Silva clearly has the advantage. With the aggressive way that Silva fights, Chuck will probably wear down late in the 1st round. And considering it will be a 5 round fight, Liddell will be in trouble. Regardless of the outcome, I'd love to see a rematch in Pride. '

And I'm still actually pretty skeptical about this fight happening in November. Memories of Randy Couture calling Wanderlei Silva into the ring at UFC 49 are still fresh. Obviously nothing came of this. And I want both guys to be 100% when they fight. With Wanderlie coming off of two fights with either Cro Cop, Nogueira, or Barnett, he'll certainly get banged up. Hopefully it works out though.

Nice to meet someone who knows their MMA as well as I do. I had no idea Chuck fought Pele. I'll find this and check it out. I saw Pele fight Carlos Newton, I still remember that unbelievable knee to the face he gave Newton.

And the fact that the UFC has onlt 5 minute rounds, gassing is NOT a worry for Silva.

The fight took place in the IVC back in 1998. Liddell actually won the decision, but Pele knocked him down with a high kick. I couldn't find the whole fight, but at the 1:24 mark of this Pele highlight video, they show it briefly:

And as far as I know, Pele will actually be fighting on the WFA card on July 22. I don't know think they've determined his opponent yet.

So End of Your Days, who are you picking to win the OWGP?

It's strange for me to say it, but I'd pick Cro Cop as the least favorite to win this thing. He and Silva are probably my two favorite fighters, but Mirko doesn't seem to have that fire anymore. And yet, he was still able to chop down Yoshida with relative ease, which is something Wanderlei couldn't do on two different occasions. But for whatever reason, he just looks like he's going through the motions out there. But I think Mirko's cardio, or lack thereof, will be his downfall. Wanderlei Silva will be coming right at Mirko nonstop for the full 15 minutes. Mirko's at his best when he's able to slowly stalk his opponent and pick his shots. Silva won't let him do that, just like Fedor never let him do that. By the end of the 1st round, Cro Cop will be dead tired and Silva will be as fresh as he was during the staredown (which I'm looking forward to just as much as the fight itself). So I say Wandy wins by TKO in the 2nd round. Along with Silva/Liddell, this is the fight that I've been waiting a long, LONG time for.

As for Barnett/Nogueira, I just have a feeling that Barnett pulls this out. I can't see either guy finishing the other one, particularly with a submission. But I can see Barnett eeking out the split decision. I think he'll be able to take Nogueira down and then be active enough on the top to win points on the judges' scorecards. Nog will likely go for more submission attempts than Barnett, but if he's able to repeatedly escape from them and then try a few of his own, I think he'll win.

Then with Barnett and Silva in the finals, I say Silva takes it. Barnett will probably have to be wheeled to the ring, while Silva will look like he just woke up. Just knowing that your opponent is in such better shape than you must be disheartening. But Barnett certainly won't be a cakewalk for Silva. If Barnett gets him on the ground, he could easily wear Silva out. My hope is that after several minutes of Barnett trying to submit or pound Silva from the top, the ref will stand them up. Silva will then realize he has to let it all hang out, and I see him getting another TKO victory late in the 1st round.

Maybe that's just my little fantasy. Then of course, Wandy will go on to cave Chuck's skull in two short months later. But I honestly think that any of the 4 fighters left have a great chance at winning. Cro Cop would very well catch Silva with a high left kick two minutes into the fight. Then he'll be fresh going into the finals to face a worn down Nogueira or Barnett. And as much as I like Nogueira, I don't know if I can get excited for Fedor/Nogueira IV.

I'd say the same about Crocop. His stamina has never been anything to write home about. He always looks for the quick KO. The staredown in the first Crocop/Silva fight was something to behold. Silva looked like a psycho killer and Crocop looked like Wand just called his mother a whore.

Yes, Crocop is a counter-puncher, like Chuck, who does NOT like to be pressured. Silva has a habbit of putting extreme amounts of pressure on fighters because of his extremely aggressive style. Chuck will not like that, neither will Cropcop.

I was recently watching a Crocop highlight on Sherdog, and most of the footage was from his K-1 days which I've never really seen. I tell you what, if the K-1 Crocop showed up, Silva would lose. He showed tons of aggression that I've never seen from him in Pride.

I think Crocop gasses, and Silva takes the decision.

Nog and Barnett... well, I see this one turning out like Nog/Ricco. I see Barnett doing most of the work, but Nog still getting the split decision. Nooooo disrespect towards Nog, he's one of the best fighters in the world today, and I really enjoy watching him work his BJJ magic. But I see a decision going to him.

Nog vs. Silva....hmmm. Well, there's no way in hell Silva will KO Nog. We've all seen the beatings that Nog can withstand and still be able to defend himself with no problems. I believe Nog's chin is even better than Hunt's. Yes, he can be hit by Silva and knocked down, but not hurt enough to lose the fight via KO/TKO. It's not going to happen. I don't see Silva being subbed by Nog, either. I say this one goes to the decision as well.

Who gets it, though? I really can't tell you... neither will gas, though, that's for sure.

Wand vs. Chuck? Pfft, this fight will be like Leben vs. A. Silva. Once again, the UFC fans will see what happens when you put Pride fighters against UFC fighters: THEY GET OWNED.

And fucking Tim Sylvia! Hahaha! What a fucking joke this tool is! I swear, I've lost all respect for that douche. He talks shit on everyone. Apparently, "his hands are better than Crocop's." Haha.... uh huh, I'd like to see that shit happen. Tim wouldn't know his own mother after Crocop KO'd his ass. And Tim also thinks he's as good as Fedor.... I don't even have to explain what a joke that is. Tim also believes that he can kick Jerome LeBanner's ass as well. This fucking guy is delusional.

If Liddell/Silva goes the way A. Silva/Leben went, I will have a permanent smile on my face and probably a permanent erection as well. But Liddell and Wandy are much closer in terms of talent than Leben and A. Silva are. Wandy still has the edge, but I doubt it will be a one-sided affair. With MMA, I've just learned never to get overconfident. I had Cro Cop taking the 2004 Grand Prix and Kevin Randleman, of all people, knocked his ass out. Cro Cop is eons ahead of Randleman, but all it takes is that one punch. And Liddell certainly has knock out power. If Silva and Liddell fought 10 times, I say Silva wins 8 of them. But Chuck's no joke. But the longer the fight goes, the better Silva's chances. I just have nightmares about what would happen if Chuck KO'd Silva. Can you imagine the reaction of all the UFC fans who had absolutely no idea who Wandy was? It would be horrifying to listen to them praise Chuck and the UFC and how they knew all along that this would happen. But let's just hope it never comes to that.

And I'm a little bit torn here. Would I rather see Silva go through two long wars and sustain lots of damage on his way to win the OWGP? Or would I rather see Silva lose early in the OWGP and be as fresh as possible against Liddell? I just hope Cro Cop doesn't crack a rib or two. Silva fought Fujita with a broken rib, so him staying healthy is definitely a concern. And for the first time in quite a while, I'll have to root for Liddell against Babalu.

Tim Sylvia's act wore thin quite some time ago. The problem is nobody in the UFC will shut him up. Who do they have to fight him? Monson? Sylvia will probably pick him apart with his reach. Mir looked like shit in his last couple fights. Sadly, Arlovksi poses the biggest threat but I'm in no hurry to see a 4th fight. I'd like to see Liddell take a page out of Silva's book and fight Sylvia. I don't know if Dana would want a guy to hold both the LHW and HW titles, but something needs to be done about their shitty HW division. Cro Cop, Kharitonov, Aleksander, Shogun, or even Coleman or Randleman could shake things up a bit.

Unlike Silva, Chuck would never have the balls to throw down with any heavyweight. It just shows you Wand's character.

I know it won't be an easy fight for Silva against Chuck. I just say that because I don't like Chuck AT ALL, but I will never discredit his skill and power. It's like this: whoever connects first, wins. I'm just hoping to go through a Rocky III moment. Ya know, have a huge ego, be a big celeb... and get... civilized. Then get mauled by an axe murderer. :)

Wanderli would beat Liddell 10 out 10 times. His jumping knee strikes are the most devasting thing Ive ever seen. I mean he freakin broke sakurabas collar bone and I dont think Liddell could get him off the ground. Liddell would get schooled in a heartbeat. Igor Vovcahnyn is my favorite heavy weight fighter. That guy is a coke machine with legs. If he came over to UFC Id probably never watch Pride again, Igo's getting up there though and I dont know how many years he has left before he retires.

It was at Critical Countdown. But now that I think about it, he did fight after that. He fought Nakamura to be a fill-in if anyone was hurt in the tourney. He lost that fight, and Nakamura is a fucking CAN... that's sad.
