UFC 61, 2 days to go!

Well, now it's looking like Cro Cop is out of the OWGP. I'll be pretty fuckin' pissed at Cro Cop if he backs out with just a month to go before Final Conflict. You would think that he would have been aware of the financial terms when he signed on for the OWGP. I'm still holding out hope that this is just a last minute bargaining technique, but either way, it seems pretty shitty of him to do this when he's already signed the contract. If he actually does walk away from this, I'll have a hard time rooting for him no matter where he goes to fight.

No matter who he fights, it'll be irritating to know that we're seeing this fight instead of Silva/Cro Cop. But if Cro Cop is out of the OWGP, one of the only exciting matchups that makes some sense is Mark Coleman. Coleman did "win" against Shogun in what was supposedly a qualifying match for the OWGP, yet he was never in it. And he did win a GP back in 2000. I know that's about as relevant as bringing up Wandy's losses to Tito and Vitor, but out of all the fighters out there, I think Coleman makes the most sense. And considering the rivalry between Hammerhouse and Chute Boxe, Pride could really hype this fight up.

I've seen Vitor Belfort's name being thrown around, but I don't think there's any way Pride can put this guy into a position where he could win the OWGP. I just don't think he's done anything to really deserve it. Everyone, including myself, wants to see a Wand/Vitor rematch, but this isn't the time for it. But let's just hope Cro Cop comes to his senses and shows up for Final Conflict. He's said repeatedly that he no longer fights for money. He just wants to win a belt. It would be pretty ironic if he turns down probably his last opportunity to win the Pride belt because of money.

Yeah, Vitor doesn't deserve anything. I'd worry about Coleman fighting Silva. Coleman will be able to take Silva down at will and pretty much lay and pray a boring decision.

That's definitely a concern. The ultimate nightmare would be to have a Coleman/Barnett final. It may be a good fight, but when compared with the possibility of either Cro Cop/Nogueira or Silva/Nogueira, it doesn't look all that exciting. Then perhaps we could have the eagerly awaited rematch between Coleman and Fedor. Oh man. But I think Silva would beat Coleman. Coleman would be able to take him down, but I think Silva will still knock him out. At some point, the ref will have to stand them back up if it goes down. That's when Silva will do his damage. He's just too aggressive for Coleman.

Oh, and it's looking like we'll finally get to see Shamrock/Ortiz III within the next couple months. Screw Cro Cop/Silva, this fight is the one that really matters. And the way it looks now, it will be on one of the Ultimate Fight Nights.

So now Final Conflict is back to being my most anticipated MMA event ever. It still would have been decent without Cro Cop, but this just makes it unbelievably good. Man, I really can't wait for this event. And as of right now, they only have 3 confirmed matchups. The two semifinal fights and then Kharitonov/Aleks, which should be an unbelievable fight. Hopefully, Sergei gets back on track. And Arona is rumored to be on this card as well. So this event is only gonna get better from now until September 10th.

Aside from Cro Cop, I think a healthy Sergei poses the biggest threat to Fedor. As much as I like Nogueira, his style just doesn't match up against Fedor's. Sergei is a sambo fighter like Fedor is, so I think that would be a really interesting fight. I really hope that Kharitonov's shoulder is healed. I had heard rumors that he had retired shortly after the Alistair fight, but obviously that wasn't true. Kharitonov really helps to solidify a pretty amazing heavyweight lineup for Pride.

Fedor
Nogueira
Cro Cop
Kharitonov
Barnett
Zentsov
Werdum
Aleksander
Shogun
Hunt
Coleman
Overeem

Not too shabby a lineup when compared with the UFC's heavyweights.

The UFC's heavyweight devision is a fucking joke. That's why I'm hoping this whole Pride vs. UFC thing will really take off, so we can see Sylvia get schooled.

Yeah, I was shocked when I found an MMA-related thread on Ultimate Metal. Actually, the shocking part was that there were people here who actually knew what Pride was. Very cool. And I'm not a "casual fan" either. We're talking full blown disorder at this point. I don't know what it is, but I don't think I've ever shown as much interest in anything in my life (aside from metal) than I have in MMA.

And as for the potential UFC/Pride card, I've heard Fujita's name thrown around as a potential opponent for Sylvia. As much as I don't like Sylvia, I think this is a bad matchup for Pride. I think Sylvia will just pick Fujita apart like he did to Cabbage. The only thing Fujita really has is the takedown, but that's not gonna be good enough considering how quick the UFC refs are to stand fights back up. Fujita's one of the last heavyweights from Pride that I'd want to see come to the UFC. But hopefully this will just be the start and we'll see some of the better heavyweights make their way over.

DUDE! Same! I love this shit just as much as metal these days, and that's a fucking LOT. I watch fights every single day, I buy every Pride DVD that comes out. And right now, I just downloaded the instructional DVD from Tito Ortiz. And also his Abu Dhabi bouts against Arona and Hughes. How the fuck did he lose to Arona?! That was bullshit. Haven't watched the Hughes bout yet.

Fujita stands no chance against Tim... SEND FEDOR. Or at least Crocop.

Yeah, most nights I actually spend more time staring at my DVD collection than actually watching the DVD's. I have about 38 Pride DVD's, 9 UFC DVD's, the IVC-Birth of an Axe Murderer DVD, a few K-1 DVD's, and a bunch of boxing DVD's. Yet I just stare blankly at all of them because I've seen them all so many times. It's a sad state of affairs.

Ever seen the Bas Rutten lethal streetfighting DVD? Pretty funny shit. Here's a clip:

"I'm sorry sir, but I'm gonna break your leg."

Haah, I've seen that! I downloaded it a few years ago. A clip from that was even shown on TV on some comedy show. I can understand, some of that shit is pretty goofy. Bas is such a character.

You know Dana White soiled himself when he read this article. Right now, with Pride relatively unknown in the U.S., Sakakibara can call out UFC fighters all he wants and not too many UFC fans will be aware. But since Pride is coming to the U.S., they're gonna start getting a lot more attention. The only thing that I'm a little concerned about is that he included Yoshida and Fujita's names in the list of fighters that will "devour" the UFC's fighters. I can't imagine Yoshida, minus the gi, really posing much of a threat to Liddell. And since Silva may very well take Liddell's belt in November, I'm not sure what purpose Yoshida will serve. And you already know my feelings on Fujita. I wish he would have mentioned Kharitonov or at least Cro Cop in his list of fighters. But he DID mention Fedor, so I guess that covers his ass either way.

Maybe he just wants to throw out some of his lesser talent just to test the waters, and if they lose.. big deal, they weren't that great anyway. Well, I do like Yoshida quite a bit.
