Well.. IMO he's just negative.. Saying things like, the album isn't going anywhere..

Or,

Opeth take more steps in a new direction than in assuring that they maintain their meticulously high standard.

He means that this album doesn't meet the meticulously high standard.. Thats negative isn't it?..

And maybe more?

Yea. I like Cang, but he tends to be that way. Still a great review, though. It's about friggin' time it came out!

Well, compared to other Opeth albums, it's not unbelievably amazing. I mean, you expect it to be great. You know you're going to enjoy it. The only question is, will it hit you so hard that you'll be bleeding music once it sinks in and you "get it", like some of the other albums. For him, it didn't. It ranks a "respectively great" on his chart, I guess.

Yup. It is, ultimately, a negative review, and I think I made my relative disappointment pretty clear.

IMO vocals should not dictate what genre a band is placed. They are definitely there own genre.
