I've heard nothing but bad reviews from people about this album, so I finally decided to judge for myself and download it. I think it's amazing and up there with their earlier stuff, just in a more ambient way. Garm is the linchpin in this band...

I realize now to never listen to Italian metalheads when they speak about Ulver, because if it's not Nattens Madrigal, then it's shit. One-dimensional idiots.

For me anyway, when it's ambient, it's not ambient enough, and when it's 'Garm,' it's not 'Garm' enough.

Perhaps that's the idea--the middle path through two potentially awesome sounds. Upon instant reflection, that's obviously not a good idea.

And the lyrics are awful.

"The sun is far away"

But you know what? I'll pop it in. It'll make a good morning record, if it stays on.

OMG VORTEX IS BETTER ESPECIALLY IN ULVER.... wait, wat?

I mean I never really liked SotS... I liked Blood Inside though... but I've never heard Nattens Madrigal.

If I'm ever in Norway I'll check it out.

P.S. Anyone who lives in or around Norway and doesn't going to see Borknagar in November I will hate you ;_;

This band was soooooo much better when they were blowing all of their labels money on drugs and suits and shit like that... and recording their albums in a forest!

Seriously though, there are some gems in post 98 Ulver's disco, but nothing they have done can even compare with the black metal era recordings. Nattens Madrigal FTW!
