United Abominations

Just to chime in here again, I really like it....a lot. As to the lyrics, I kind of agree on their not-so-good-ness. But, personally I don't like them just because his thoughts on, say, the United Nations seem kind of scattered and not well thought out. I can't tell if he's mad because the US went to war and the UN didn't stop it, or if he's mad because they didn't help. Haha. More, as I said to Soundmaster recently, his politics (and religious philosophy) are what I kind of think of as "trailer park politics." This with all do respect to those who live in mobile homes (I have before myself). Maybe the better term is "professional wrestling politics..."

Anyway, if you forget the fact that he is kind of a religious fundamentalist these days, songs like Blessed Be The Dead are not so far off of, say, The Four Horsemen lyrically speaking. Still, there is the rub that he probably means it in the "Left Behind," way, a really bad series of books about The Rapture of the Christian faith.

Anyway, I don't mind any of it. There are even some great lyrics by my estimation....like, "One day I'll dance on your grave, even if your buried at sea...." I like that....kind of poetic.

Also, the music is great, the last guitar solo is very cool. I don't find the lyrics even remotely as bad as I've heard some referring to them as. Not amazing, but not as silly as all that. I even think the lyrics to Washington is Next, Sleepwalker, Gears of War, Never Walk Alone (amongst others) are particularly good.

It will be on my year end top ten most likely.

Oh, i'm not saying it's better than Youthanasia. I'm saying it's better than any album they've done SINCE Youthanasia. Youthanasia is also in my top 5. Great album.

Eh, I like Cryptic Writings more than UA at the moment. Trust is one of my favorite Megadeth songs (and one of my all-time favorites) so it's hard to top that.

Wiz, I concur. I'm enjoying some of Dave's clever lines also. If people really want to make issue with the lyrics, there is credit due amongst the abominations. My mindset is like Wyverns' music comes first and I can excuse bad lyrics if neccessary because thats not what I'm listening for. Its about the metal and there is plenty of it present on UA. Nice work, Megadave.

I have to say I still prefer TSHF to this new album. Not a bad effort by any means but it doesn't really have that bite. Dave is still on the right track though and this band is not ready to die yet.

The lyrics... I'm not sure if Dave even has any real political agenda or does he just bitch about everything because he likes his own voice. Somehow his rants just lack credibility. Still the lyrics are just a minor pain in the butt for me.

"Megadeth unleashed a cd full of audio waste called RISK in 1999... there was no UN" :heh:

For the most part I've enjoyed his lyrics. I really liked Amerhikstan - that Halliburton line was great. I think Scorpion was arguably his best set of lyrics in the past decade or so... perhaps even of all time.

As I've stated before, this is a very solid album, and I'm not trying to take away from the music, but has anyone mentioned the fact that there's a riff in Washington is Next that sounds EXACTLY like the intro guitar riff to Maiden's Wasted Years?!?

Thanks PM! I used to be a decent guitar player, but now I have reached full "HACK" status. LOL. This was an easy one, though. I knew the picking pattern was a little different.....

. I thought 'A tout le monde' featuring the bitch from Lacuna Coil was awful.

Yes is the stain in the sheet. It would been nicer if it was a bonus track, as matter of fact i will consider that way when recording time comes.

NP: Misery Inc. - 'Suicide Serenade'

I like it all, minus Gears of war, united abominations really made me think and i thought the solo's were awesome thrrougout the whole album, and yes I even liked A Tout Le Monde (Set me free) I thought both Dave and Christina's voices blended pretty well together.

Its a good album, so was Megadeth's The System Has Failed. The only bad thing about it is just that I have heard it all before on Megadeth's other albums. Still, I would prefer Mustaine released something true to the bands roots then take another "risk" again.

I wasnt too pleased with Risk, there were a few good songs, but i think hes on the right path with what he is producing now, but while he is re-doing new songs id like to hear a remake of Promises or Countdown to Extinction.

Still spinning this one pretty regulary so that's a good sign. It's really good, but Mustain's vocals seem kind of uninspired on a few songs. Still a great CD in my book!:headbang:
