United States placed in International Police State by President Obama

@ iekobird: i hope youre right, as the wording of the signed pieces online (both the whitehouse site and the original articles signed by reagan and clinton make it so peicemeal. several columnists from the Washington Examiner, National Review, etc have all written pieces about it. i hope theyre wrong, because recent situations have been scary, including:

- Italy trying CIA agents in absentia
- Navy Seals standing trial for punching a high profile terrorist they captured
- Border Patrol agents standing trial for shooting at a drug smuggler as he crossed back into Mexico

believe me, i'd much rather you be right then to see things like this get worse.

This one?

' First, Obama has granted Interpol the ability to operate within the territorial limits of the United States without being subject to the same constitutional restraints that apply to all domestic law enforcement agencies such as the FBI. Second, Obama has exempted Interpol's domestic facilities -- including its office within the U.S. Department of Justice -- from search and seizure by U.S. authorities '

That second sentence is true, supported by plain language in the IOIA affected by the Executive Orders. The first sentence is patently false, demonstrating at best the author's misunderstanding of the functions of both Interpol and the English language, and at worst the author's desire to scare. thee fuck. out of his audience.

Then there's this: ' Think very carefully about what you just read: Obama has given an international law enforcement organization that is accountable to no other national authority the ability to operate as it pleases within our own borders '

No, think very carefully about THAT sentence. At first glance it appears to be further analysis of Obama's action but in fact is analysis (if you can even call it that) of the author's own false statement from the previous paragraph ("what you just read" = what he just wrote, not a reference to any actual law or order).

And don't get me started on the claims that Interpol can arrest or extradite or even assassinate any US citizen, which are utter bullshit. They don't have those powers in any country, much less ours. Interpol is an interagency facilitation organization -- essentially a fucking database. Folks hear "interpol" and immediately assume James Bonds are going to be climbing up their asses. Think more like Clive Owen in The International -- no official power to do dick to anyone.

Now I'm not saying this isn't part of some bigger, broader scheme to fuck us over somehow, but in and of itself it's no more insidious than giving the Make A Wish Foundation tax exempt status.
