Oh, I really adore the US Power/Heavy scene. It has so many gems. A personal few favorites of mine are:
Cirith Ungol- The name was enough to draw me in, I'm a Tolkien fan, obviously. They released a string of four great albums in the '80s. While their first one was heavily influenced by '70s Rock (Space, Prog, and Hard mostly) their sophomore release 'Kind of the Dead' really added some elements of heaviness, and at times doom. Their later two releases also had some very high quality music on them.
Manilla Road- Ah! What is to say? A classic band from right here in the Midwest USA where I live. Hopefully I will be able to see them live this summer at the KC Power Metal Fest. I greatly enjoy 'Crystal Logic' and 'Open the Gates.' It's incredible that they still put out high quality music today, 30 years after they formed! Mark Shelton is king.
Jag Panzer- Another fantastic, and well know US act. Their 'Tyrant' EP and debut full length 'Ample Destruction' are fucking classics! There's not must to say except just go out and listen to some samples. Great music.
A few other of my favorites would be Omen, Helstar, Crimson Glory, and the like. There are of course newer, excellent acts too like Cage, Seven Witches, Beyond Fear, and so on.
I don't mean to name drop, but there are so many excellent acts out there that I, and everyone else, need to look into a lot more.

I'd suggest Virgin Steele, but if I remember correctly rms doesn't like them,
But if others want to get into them, I think they fuckin' rock! Their Marriage of Heaven and Hell albums are awesome.
