USA healthcare overhaul

I haven't read a definitive description of the bill yet, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that a lot of us are going to be figuratively fucked in the ass.

I hope I'm wrong about that.

I read from Helsingin Sanomat (the biggest newspaper in Finland) that the US senate passed the healthcare overhaul bill

Can someone explain to me how things will change from now to then if this turns into a law?

Basically our taxes will go through the roof, moreso than usual, to pay for this bill...while our national debt is still in the trillions.

Yeah, awesome.

Basically, Healthcare will be apart of the government (It's no longer part of the private sector) Therefore taxes will be made/added to help sustain healthcare and all who use it. The national debt has also been raised to help get this into motion as promptly as possible.

Sounds like the system in Finland. It works imho tbh. My dentist bill would've otherwise been like over 2000€, but I only paid like 115€ to get 7 teeth fixed

I've been waiting for nationwide health care for a long time. You are a real nation when each person's life has the same value across the country. I will proudly (finally) sport the American flag when this bill becomes law. A little more tax money is a small price to pay in order to become a true nation.

It's not all about profit.

Agreed.
its baffling that the alleged "greatest nation" on earth has point-blank refused to look after its own citizens for so long.

as for people getting pissed about how this will increase the national debt, perhaps your anger should be directed towards the reasons the national debt is so high in the first place.

Yes sir, that's the truth.:notworthy

I'm not neccesarily pissed about it, but I do wonder a bit where it will lead...your gov now controls you [] that much more. And in 1-2-3-4-5 years, it'll happen again somewhere else, and so forth until you have cameras in your toilet to watch what you shit.:p I know that's probably the Alex Jones mentality to some people but it's a real possibility that shit could get way worse.

surely its the lesser of two evils for the health system to be run by a government of elected representatives rather than by corporations that cannot be held to account?

not that i have any faith in politicians either, but something as basic as healthcare is too important to be left in the hands of profit-mongers.

on a related note, i'm a big fan of the NHS in Britain.

a few weeks ago i went to the doctor to have my feet looked at, i've ingrown toe-nails that need to be operated on.
last week i got confirmation of a date for the procedure, and it cost me nothing.
granted, tax is reasonably hard here, but what i get in return is tremendous, a health system where i'll actually get looked after.

back in Ireland the doctor appointment alone would have been €60+, then fuck-only-knows how much for the procedure.
and i dread to think what it would cost in America.

So you were not proud of any of the accomplishments of our country before this bill would be passed?

Even though I disagree with this particular bill, I do agree that we need healthcare reform in some way, shape, or form.

Buttt, that statement regarding the flag makes me think that you are ashamed of our country enough not to sport a flag. I'm guessing you are against our foreign policy, that is fine...but why not fly the flag in support of American values that made us a great nation and allows anyone to prosper given they put in the work necessary to achieve it.
