users sharing Kayo Dot on slsk: LuminousAether, Blood Rapture

just an FYI, my feelings on filesharing are pretty much in line with the things xfer has said. I just started this thread to stir up some shit and whooo nelly! I sure did!

To clear things up, I checked the other day to see if anyone had started sharing it yet and saw the unfinished versions being shared by OrganicImage. This name struck me as being very similar and I went back and looked at that thread from April and realised that this was the same guy, so apparently he didn't delete the files like he said he would. I wondered whether I should mention something to you guys, but was hesitant to do so because of something like... well... this thread. But just to clear up any doubts, I think that's the main source of the unfinished songs, from which point they must have spread around slsk.

wow toby i'm sorry this has happened it must be really frustrating. i dont even understand the necessity of file sharing, and mostly i don't understand why someone would say they would delete a file then... NOT do it, unless they just genuinely not a good person.

thus i apologize for the existence of these bad and not good people.

If you are an underground metal or indie rock fan, file sharing is a must. It's just like tape trading, but quicker and easier. How else would you find out about new bands? Samples aren't enough, for most bands I need to hear the entire album before I buy it as I have had too many experiences with buying an album that had 1 or 2 good songs and I just never listened to it after I bought it. Cds are outrageously expensive, and I just can't afford that many so the ones that I do buy I need to know are worth it before hand. In this scene, file sharing is the only way to do that.

I agree with a lot of that, LuminousAether. I do think there is a distinction between d/ling stuff from others and actually ripping the album and putting it up for d/l yourself, though.

yea. what xfer said. i'm not retarded. i do know the virtues of filesharing. but i don't see the point or understand totally ripping off a band you like that isn't close to super wealthy. i also don't understand jacking private tapes and doing that. it's wack.

it all goes together hand in hand. Lord knows, I've discovered probably 75% of the stuff I listen to nowadays through filesharing. But it's also backed up by reading a ton of stuff every day, trying to find out what's good. there's no way I'm gonna spend $20 a pop on importing CDs that may or may not be good.

This is Kazoo. I never even had any demos saved... I just listened to one song using my browser without even realizing the others were available until the whole Great Demo Leak Debacle of '03. But, it seems y'all figured out who's sharing the unfinished songs anyway.

I have to admit, I've downloaded the album, but I haven't purchased it. But, I'm one of those people that fit into the aforementioned category of "broke". I assure you, I will be buying it when I have money to spare. As in: when I find a job and take care of car insurance and such. (if you happen to remember, my first post here was saying that I only had motW mp3's and that I would buy the albums when I get the chance, and I later kept my word).
