Varg Vikerness Political Prisoner

Varg is a pseudo-intellectual at best. He may have made some really good music, but all of the incoherent bullshit he's spouted over the years is really not worth taking seriously. He's not retarded, but he is no fucking genius either.

You do not understand the value of Varg's writings. By no means is he a great intellectual, but he serves as a gateway to reactionary right and neo-luddite thinkers for people who are dissatisfied, but unaware of alternatives. Varg's writing leads one to Yockey, Evola, the Nouvelle Droite, which lead to Plato, Taoism, "Hinduism," Spengler, Toynbee, and others; and also, Varg can lead one down the path to anti-technology writers such as Jacques Ellul. That is his merit as a writer.

Slipknot is often referred to as a "gateway" band for people to get into Metal in its various forms. In other words, Slipknot opens the doors to bigger and better things.

If it served that purpose for you, then so be it. However, I will say that there are other bands, which would serve the purpose even better, but cannot due to lack of marketing. When a band is too "mainstream" they tend to attract people who don't give a shit for any reason other than social acceptability, thus, defeating the purpose. Burzum, OTOH, will attract a smaller, but much more dedicated, genuinely interested fanbase.

Slipknot is the first brick on the road to Burzum.

It was a joke to begin with, so I don't see any point in carrying this any further.

I highly doubt that in 50 years that Varg Vikernes will be a subject of study in any philosophy class, even that of the graduate school level. The guy is just not that fucking special. Tony Iommi has accomplished more with his guitar alone then Varg has with his guitar playing, bass playing, drumming, vocalising, keyboard playing and MIDI sequencing, writing, murder, and arson. That's not an opinion, that's a fact.

When Varg is released, he will refound the Lyceum, and will cast a shadow over the world's preeminent intellectuals for thousands of years. The term "post-Vikernes" will soon be coined.

The dude who burnt down the church in Porvoo, FI said that the church burnings that took place in Norway in the early 90's inspired him.

....... now he is facing (I believe) 7 years in prison.

i find it pathetic on how someone can believe in his thoughts so much that he would destroy something of that much importance to other people that have done absolutely nothing wrong to him...radther similar to terrorist beliefs...

I guess there is people that believe in their thoughts and dream or people that believe in their thoughts and do. It's 2006 so you can't burn down a church or attack christians in their front yard or whatever regardless because times change. I guess he somehow felt compelled by his believes trying to prove his point instead of sitting in his bedroom with just thoughts about something. Sometimes people believe what they might do is right or will make a difference or want to change something by taking action instead of standing on the sides regardless of if what they do is deamed good or bad. If you want to make a stand religious wise you would hit harder gathering more people to all set churches on fire at the sametime at different locations which would cause it harder to put out fires, and this would dramatize fear and panic. The world takes interest in people who do wrong the same as people do right. Wrong is just as important as right, and really no one really knows what is right or wrong. I guess when we die will see if we get judged or just be nothing.

I also realize someone as a person and art are different things and worlds. You can appreciate people who do something considered bad. That person might be crazy but it does not make them an idiot.

Some crimes,etc.. are crafted. Some people are just idiots about it but some think and plan and that has merit.

People can prepare a crime for months before comitting the act.

Anything from music to heists, etc. can be appreciated, even murder. You don't have to look at it as good or bad nor does it have to reflect you. You can find something in anything. You can think about it and reason why someone did something.

Negative things entertain the world just like positive things.

This is the truth. Not all criminals are mindless potheads, some are quite intellectual.
