I thought this was the Ultimate METAL forum.
The Darkness are bad, not metal (in my opinion)
I blame bands like that for what is wrong with metal in this country , that claim to be metal but are in fact Pop.
Things like The Black Rebel Motorbike thingy, and the hives and the stripes and all pop shit like that, the list goes on, you know the bands I mean.
Anyway,I heard the Darkness' new on The Box :Spin: along side things like Atomic Kitten and Eminem and I thought I was hearing a bad Queen cover group. The guys voice is annoying and those riffs were good 30 years ago. that's why the likes of Queen and AC/DC used them decades ago.
As you guessed I don't like them.

The Darkness are a quality rock band, who sound very much like Queen/Aerosmith/AC/DC who many a metal band look up to as there influences. Yeah they are nothing new, but 75% of these eurometals band are only recycling stuff kicked out by older bands ie, Hammerfall = Accept, Primal Fear = Judas Priest etc etc
At least the Darkness play there music with a sense of humour, where many of these metal bands look and sound twice as ridiculous and are deadly serious about it. (helo Manowar).
They'd be great for Bloodstock in my opinion, a real party band that are great for a laugh.
I'm sure Steve Dawson plays for them as well

i like em, there rock, not metal tho, there tht pop/rock mix, like def leppard but with queen style vocals and acdc style riffs, in my opion there the best of the early rock/metal scene rolled into one, and i quite like em, saw em open for def lappard too, they were great - but then copared against the rest of the new bands these days, who wouldnt look good - not for bloodstock tho, its a METAL fest.
Well they can play, and they are amusing, but I was lent their album and it gets boring after a couple of listens. I hate the fact how kerrang has latched onto them though, saying they are all new and different, when it usually takes the piss out of anything not 'angsty'. Not METAL as such but I would probably still class them as just into the boundary...

Lagoon..he is unreliable and he is not a nice man. I saw Maiden with Dianno and if you compare him to Bruce there is no comparision! I think in the heady days of NWOBHM we were more forgiving...oh and we wore dubious trousers!!

He's just got so much more charm than Dickinson. Yeah he's unreliable and not a nice bloke. I've been on the recieving end of that. One Plymouth gig he never turned up to and the other he turned up totally wasted and offered out the crowd. Awesome gig though.
But if you listen to his Beast Live album it for me is still the finest Maiden live album. His vocals have so much more aggression and I just love his voice. Yeah Bruce is a technically better singer, but Di'anno just does it for me every time.
He's also recorded some hugely underated albums as well, Muder One and Menace to Society are both stunning.
Sorry, but the album Killers is cack.
Admittedly, Iron Maiden is a great album, but Killers just leaves me cold, he thinks he's in a punk band or something.

Killers is actually my fav Maiden album. And yes he did think he was in a punk band. Maiden did have an element of punk about them, that's why so many punks liked them and thats why they now sound so tied and boring.

I've read Paul's Beast book and I couldn't stop laughing and after reading that I want to meet him.

You could call me biased towards Heavy Metal Samurai as he has been responsible for introducing me to some great metal over the past few months, but my honest, unbiased opinion is that he is right in everything he has just said about the mighty Maiden. You don't become one of the greatest bands in the world off two albums! That suggests to me that they didn't need Dianno.
Wow that Darkness to Dianno transition was amazing !! Back to the original theme I personally dont get the Darkness but then I have never seen Beckham as the second coming for football either! Guess we should be grateful they aint another R+B, HipHop , Rap , Soul , Garage , Techno , Ambient , EMO , Dance or Pop/Idol pile of wank . Make the most of it and enjoy seeing the trendy twats in their "Designer Metal" shirts in OK magazine etc. If you see some trendy in her designer Deep Purple , 70s , £60 off the shelf rough-cut t shirt then ask said person if she prefers Machine Head or Burn and then watch her face as she has to admit to you she has no idea at all what you are on about !................ FOAD.
