Viking Metal

Viking metal is folk metal with Norse leanings, in my opinion. But still, an amazing genre (and my favorite):

Bathory (the fucking founders; Hammerheart and beyond)
Turisas (might be the most accessible Viking metal band)
Ensiferum (another accessible band)
Thyrfing
Equilibrium
Einjerhar (old-school Viking metal)
Borknagar (self-titled and The Olden Domain)
Finntroll (not Viking metal; but good folk metal)
Tyr (not my favorite band; they're kinda boring; but still, they have some good hooks)

Lots more, but I'm a bit preoccupied at the moment. I'll list more later, if I think of any. Was this even a request for recommendations?
Einjerhar to the rescue.

Despite the lyrical themes having nothing to do with Vikings (which is proof that Viking metal exists as a musical genre not simply a lyrical unifier), I absolutely love Morrigan's material that falls more under this.

Celts is a fantastic example of how to do the style perfectly.

That's their new one, right? I haven't heard it yet. I've always thought of Moonsorrow as a band that was inherently black metal. They only added more folk/symphonic elements.

Its only 1 new song, basically an addition to V:Havietty, 1 30m song. 1 older song redone, and a cover of For Whom the Bell Tolls.

And yes, Morrigan is pretty good. I just can't seem to get wow'd by them though. They are also playing heathen crusade

Does Månegarm count? :|

as the best band in the folk/viking genre, yes.

the gods have spoken.
