Not anything really to say other than i have been jamming Mind's Eye and Time Odyssey the past few days.

Why not some "SHREDDERS" for PP in the future? Would be pretty cool change i think. Tony MacAlpine only playing tracks from first two albums? Racer X, the same?

Not sure how much of an audience there would be for a purely instrumental band, and besides, many of the guitarists we see in regular bands with vocals are at or at least near Vinnie Moore or Tony MacAlpine's level.

Now if you want to get Tony Macalpine here with Ring of Fire, I can get behind that. Love to see Vitalij Kuprij too.

Racer X would be killer if it could be arranged; I think Glenn has said he would not book purely instrumental bands - might work as part of the Showcase though, I'd love to see Vinnie, Tony, Paul or someone really good like that!

Hanging around guitar players when I was playing in Metal bands, I heard a lot of these Shrapnel/Shredder types back in the day. Tony MacAlpine, Joey Taffola, Vinnie Moore, Marty Friedman, Jason Becker...I still like hearing those old albums for nostalgia's sake. Perpetual Burn is still amazing...

Saw Vinnie Moore play when he was coming out with The Maze, he was pretty rad and seemed like a nice guy. He's the only big-time shredder I've seen live (well, I've seen Billy Sheehan). There's a few local heroes that I've been able to see a few times (Joe Stump) who aren't quite in A-list of worldwide name-recognition.

I've been hoping for an instrumental artist or act to grace the ProgPower stage for years, but Glenn's just not into it. The closest we've ever gotten was Powerglove playing the Showcase last year. I know that instrumental metal is not everybody's thing, but the same argument can be made for any of the "oddball" bands that have played the festival. One instrumental act will not hurt attendance.

Even if you don't book a guitar-centric act, there are a number of actual instrumental bands that have been making waves in the scenes lately. Animals As Leaders, Blotted Science, Canvas Solaris, Exivious, and Scale The Summit come to mind. Any of these bands would be a great fit at this festival, and they might even attract folks who have been on the fence about attending.

Stay metal. Never rust.

I saw Joe Stump open for Vinnie waaaay back at The Channel in Boston...it was when Moore's "Meltdown" came out. I've been lucky to see a couple G3's, so I've seen guys like Satriani, Vai, Petrucci and Gilbert. I've seen Tony Macalpine, Richie Kotzen... Yngwie, of course. I definitely would count Victor Smolski of Rage to be shredder, so I've seen him too, thanks to Prog Power.

Instrumental metal is bigger than it's been since the 80's it seems with bands like Animals as Leaders blowing up, Jeff Loomis going solo, etc. Shit I just read that Prosthetic signed Marty Friedman and that was his first legitimate US deal in like 20 years. Says something.

Personally I'm not a fan. I love some of the classic dudes like Holdsworth, DiMeola, Racer X, and some of the modern guys like Guthrie Govan, but to me alot of instrumental shred comes off as pompous wank to my ears. Very hard to keep that kind of vibe classy. However, there are alot of fans that disagree with me that flock in droves to buy Animals As Leaders records and go to their shows.

Most of those bands tour regularly throughout the US, so i would say BLOTTED SCIENCE would be the best option. CANVAS SOLARIS called it quits about a year ago i think. I had hoped Ken could pull some strings to get them on the fest. They are simply amazing. But two of the members are now rolling with The Universe Divide. great stuff too!
