Allo all, new poster here. I have a question for you vocal-knowledgable people. Ive played guitar for 20+ years, just started writing again with a few buddies. I want to go vocals, screamer type. I feel as if I sound good, but when I go to record, I feel it is subpar and weak. I using a mobile-pre II and a spider IV but bypassing the speakers just for the pre amp and effects, into my laptop. But the problem is Im using an old kareoke mic. Can this be the problem, is the mic just not picking up my vocals fully or am I weaker that I had hoped:D

Thanks for any input.

As a fellow singer. It is very hard to capture your voice how you want it... It is about 90% what mic you use, and 100% how you process the vocals (eq, comp, verb).

Cheers!

old kareoke mic? Of course it will sound like ass. At least get a sm58 they are like $100 that would be the cheapest mic i would recommend for recording vocals. If you want it to sound good get an sm7b or a decent condenser. Also a good mic pre will work wonders.
