VON

Their songs are actually covered by other black metal bands today, so they might be important in black metal music.

I've liked them when I have listened to them, but they haven't stuck yet. I probably should give them more time though.

You have no idea how little that matters to me, coming from you.

Come on though people, it's fucking shit! I love stuff like Beherit and Blasphemy, but Von are just a joke.

Important, kind of fun, but they seriously were a joke. There's a reason their main man turned up in Abscess. Stoner bastards...haha

I can partially stand Satanic Blood through intoxication...
I always figured that was part of the intention. Also people tend to overlook the humour present in a lot of early black metal, although maybe absurdity is a more appropriate term in this case. In any event their music was quite interesting, maybe a bit more experimental than most people care for. I always enjoy it.

one problem with blackmetal and metal as a whole these days is that there's an absence of such experimentation (anyone who cites shit like solefald or unexpect gets punched in the mouth). the problem i guess is that (good) metal nurtures a traditionalist mindset, which is better than shitty bands like the aforementioned but has negative consequences for the real progression of the music.

i've always thought that the role of much experimental music is the formation of new ideas which, while perhaps not employed spectacularly in the music of the innovators themselves, can be taken and utilized by artists with a better understanding of how to incorporate those ideas into better-constructed music. the necessity here is an acceptance and intellectual appreciation for experimentation, even when the end product fails as an artwork in its own right. unlike in other fields, such as electronic music, metal lacks a vanguard to uphold such a principle, which leaves us to rely on the rare band that just nails it on the first attempt, e.g. gorguts.
