The Behemoth Thread

alot of hardcore DM fans are fucking morons to be honest (not talking about here but other boards I've been to)

basically they hate nile and behemoth because the 2 bands have had something resembling success

behemoth does borrow alot of elements from different DM bands - but the final product they feature is excellent IMO

I really, really like Behemoth, in their modern DM guise. I find them to be a more accessible version of Nile, in some senses (though that isn't really fair to them). Behemoth have managed to fuse eastern tinges with DM and healthy dollops of good old fashioned HM.

I think that some folks around here approve of brutality over memorable song writing, which is a shame...

.

Later Behemoth is pretty similiar with middle and later morbid angel. The exotic scales laced with bits of melody, and heavy usage of low end harmonics and general playing of guitar and structure. Morbid angel while being originally a traditional death metal band have modernized. I can't think of any florida death metal bands that modernized. Morbid Angel almost sounds like they're poland now instead of a florida DM band . It's very obvious bands like vader, decapitated, behemoth are heavily influenced by them. I can't think of a lot of bands that dabble in harmonics like either. Morbid Angel really started the low harmonics. Generally harmonics are used in solos more than being used within riffs themselves.

At times, perhaps, but Demigod is full of unfulfilled potential. Most of the songs are very unmemorable to me, whereas the majority of ZKC is highly memorable.

Vader haven't been overtly influenced by MA since their debut album.

Morbid Angel is classic death metal, and not really similar enough to compare

And Behemoth is basically a Morbid Angel clone. BOOOORING.

Deicide is pretty solid traditional death metal, while Behemoth is more experimental or otherwise not traditional at all.

What the fuck are you on about? Not only is Behemoth a thoroughly conventional death metal band, Deicide's Legion remains one of the more experimental albums to emerge from the Tampa scene.

Vader is not as good, and somewhat lower quality.

Imagine for a moment that 'quality' is a small room, in that room are Mike Tyson (Vader) and Paris Hilton (Behemoth). Now who do you think is getting raped in this equation?

I fail to see anything similar between MA and behemoth

I guess I'm really really bad at noticing similarities between DM bands

I don't see it either. I wouldn't worry. Some posters, it would seem, think that just posting an opinion makes it fact:rolleyes:

The technique is Morbid Angel derived and the concept is certainly similar. The difference is pretty superficial, and is mainly derived from differences in production.

Disagree with assertions, sorry.

They aren't. Hence they fail to move me from my unproved assertions.

I'm not trying to offend you, dude, I simply don't agree.

For the record, your posts are often thought provoking at the least. I just don't have to agree with them all.

For the record:-

a) I have not overly recognised any techniques in the playing or composition that I recall from the works of Morbid Angel. Given that I am a rarity in that I prefer the latter three Morbid Angel albums to their earlier works, I believe I would have noticed any particularly overt similarity there. There isn't anything particularly close to MY ears. Please note I have no time for the usual suspects copying/aping Morbid Angel (n.b. see sig), as although enjoying some of their work, they remain far from my favourite DM band.

B) concede occult subject matter. I am not interested in the occult enough for me to particularly investigate the similaritiies. If you tell me that they are very close, then hey, your call.

c) Yes, production is very different.
