WACKEN 2008

i'm going next year, imo all the people who are bitching about omg its all about the environment i want to be around people who are like me and feel accepted wah wah wah it makes you sound like a poser. going there just to be around metal people and be in a huge area isn't the reason to go, the reason to go is because theres so many fucking good bands! you pay money to see the bands, not to hang around and drink expensive beer and buy expensive shit. you shouldn't take for granted the fact that you get fucking amazing bands playing that ever year, this'll be my first time and not even a quarter of the bands have been announced and i'm fucking pumped! carcass, cob, maiden, avantasia and kreator? HELL FUCKING YES. we'd never get that kind of a lineup in the usa.

I had the same opinion about my first Wacken. But when you go on festivals numerous times, your thinking changes. There are the same bands everytime, CoB was on the Wacken Line up 98, 2002, 2004, 2006 and they will be 2008.
Same with most other bands.

The atmosphere is what counts. And these days, everyone goes to Wacken. I'm not one of the OMG TRVE idiots, but it's the same with every mainstream festival: All the people who are narrow-minded normals throughout the whole year, people who always thaught bad of us longhaired idiots with our horrible music, they suddenly come to Wacken because they think that they can behave legitimely like lidiots there.
That disturbes the atmosphere! Metal-Fans with a metal-lifestyle are basically the same in Wacken, Wacken is a big version of all the parties we celebrate in "normal" life. We don't need an alibi to party hard.

The result is: The Metal-Party stays friendly, the party with the non-metalers goes to the dogs.
These people are a pain in the ass, even more than emos.:mad::mad:

It's disgusting!

I agree with Corny

I will go again next year, it will be the only holyday :p for me next year so i have to go:p
Althoug i agree about the too many people part, that just kinda stinks but i won't let it ruin the only free days i have:)

its sad how much you guys take those bands for granted. you get a festival close to you that gets a reunited/never plays band almost every year and still you bitch. in the last years there have been emperor, immortal, carnivore etc, shows which i had to drive 7 hours to, and carnivore didn't even come close to here! this year you get carcass who isn't going to be playing other places and avantasia who don't play often (if at all to my knowledge) and there aren't even all of them announced. i guess i just care more about seeing bands i'll never get to see that never play and see good bands even more than normal for a not bad price than most of you "tr00" metalheads who would rather socialize instead of see the bands you claim to like.

dude, seriously
you have never been there, so you don't even know what you're talking about
sure I go see bands, I went totally crazy too during some bands last year cause I think they were awesome, but bands aren't the only thing a (european) festival is about.
I have to drive 8 hours too to get to see those bands (bands I also had never seen before)
but when you've been there, you'll find out that such a festival isn't (only) about bands but more about atmosphere :)
ah well, you'll see.... ;)

i agree that it is about atmosphere, but the main point that should make you want to spend your money in the end is the music, not how metal the people there are. i've gone to american festivals like ozzfest, gigantour, and a lot of locals ones and maybe half the people are actual metalheads but as long as the bands are good, i go. no matter how many idiots are there, if you can get good bands all day (or in a european festivals case, for multiple days) then its as worth going to as a show of those bands that are playing normally.

@Enemy: You just don't get it. Even if it WAS about the bands: There are some which are really, really outstanding and extravagant. Emperor, Carcass, Avantasia... But the main part of the billing is absolutely nothing special. Immortal is nothing special too, I saw them 2002 and just because they say "omg we're back" everyone goes crazy now.

If you rarely go to concerts/festivals and your priority are the bands: Then go to Wacken, you'll have a lot of fun!

And stop the trve bullshit please. I don't care for normal people who behave in Wacken basically how they behave in "real" life. Fine with me then.
