Waves L2

i can't get the frequency balance right with L3 either, I find as soon as you hit it a bit hard, you're losing the mids. At least with wideband setting or L2 it keeps it balanced, but I can still get things louder with finalizer.

I haven't tried it yet, but there's also the Wave Arts FinalPlug. I think they let you have a 30 day demo that's fully functional unless they've changed:

They also have a multi-band compressor that runs about $199 if someone is looking for a C4 alternative:

You can even custom make bundles of 2-3 plugs and save $100 - $200 by getting 2 of your choice for $299, or 3 for $399.

On the subject of mastering compressors...

My old/new favorite native mastering louderizing thingy is the Sonic Timeworks Mastering Compressor. It's way more transparent than the Waves stuff, IMHO.

Anyone remember this? It's pretty old. The systems requirements are "Microsoft Windows 95/98/Windows NT 4.0 or later". :p

I just "dug up a copy" and it actually faired very well against the Oxford Inflator in some quick tests. (YMMV)

John - LCTD, are you sure the noise only happens when you have the L2 on? Meaning, are you sure the L2 isn't just boosting some other noise somehow? I dunno. Never had that problem myself.

I had a mess with the type and shaping controls on the L2 today and found that the noise could be got rid of (well decreased below an audible level) by changing them, so problem solved! But thanks again for everone's input.

I'v never personally tried the L3, is it much different to the L2 in features, options, interface, and the such?

Take it easy,
John - LCTD

Ps: Black Sugar, it is all about Trogdor the Burninator! Absoulutely hilarious!

I remember this and I still use it from time to time. I agree. It doesn't ruin the cymbals like L2 do, as long as you keep things reasonably moderate.

Oh really ??? Interresting, I shall give it a try then, Oxford Inflator just blew me !!!
Wow! Plugs do that for you?? :D well, the inflator sounds about right... :D :D :loco:

Fuck, this is unbelievable. I'm stuck in a mix with the L3 over the mastersection, can't get it right.

Turns out I have a finalizer(X3) on my G3/TDM machine. :Smug:
