Waves pull this sort of shit all the time, it's why I hate buying their plug-ins. No matter when you buy, you can bet your ass there's a special coming around the corner that will totally screw whatever you paid. Happened almost every single time I bought one of their packs.

The API is allright...you might use the 550b on guitar bus, and the 2500 on master bus...SOMETIMES...but you'll always use the SSL E channel on anything and the SSL Comp on every master bus...

Great plugins and 100% essential to home production IMO, but be sure not to overdo it with the analog switch on every channel. It can really muddy up a mix actually.
