Well, so much for Spybot or Ad-Aware...

I rarely if ever got problems when using IE, it is just a shitty browser that needs regular maintenance (like Ad-Aware) to run properly, like any Microsoft product. Mozilla you install, open, turn on pop-up blocker, and it's done.

But I go to some fucked up sites I suppose. Stuff off the normal sanity roadmap. I am NAD after all. :loco:

Which browser do you use? I cannot believe you use IE. It has more holes than your girlfriends grotty underpants.

I use IE ... I have to. I have to test all my work on it.

You guys are probably the type that just click inpatiently on popups when you get them ... click on the X to close the popups ... no the fucking middle or the ad.

The only thing I can think of is either you are degenerate gamblers or porn hounds ... otherwise I am not sure where the fuck you go. Nothing "just comes" into your PC out of thin air .. no matter what people have you believe.

You don't have to click on anything, it's all dependent on the site you visit. As you know, browsers inherently download objects to your machine and cache all the files. One of those eventually will be spyware that targets IE holes. Hackers haven't written anything (yet) that targets Firefox.

All joking aside, I am AMAZED that you haven't been infected. You might not be seeing unwanted pop-ups, but you should still run spybot and see if someone is tracking your keystrokes.

Huhuhuh....strokes.

When I look up porn, I use Firefox, and I only look at porn at home.

When at work I use IE, since barely any spyware gets through our network. After all, we are a software company with like 3867482374 firewalls plus twice as many virus scans and protectors.

At home is where I have the problem. FOr some reason, the eBay site fucks up all the time. At work, it doesn't. I get random pop-ups all the time, which I've now blocked with pop-up blocker. I've got Ad-Aware, SPyBot, Spyware Blaster, and Microsoft beta anti-spyware program running.

Ma99, I will download that firewall when I get home. Thanks.

Yeah, but you had that problem before you started using Firefox, I guarantee. It might have even been lying dormant.

The only way to fix your machine is to re-image it, and then never use IE ever again.

How does one re-image a machine? I know we have tech people here that do it, but I wouldn't know hwo to do it.

Whoa, $70. A few CD-Rs and a format *.* costs about a quarter. :Spin:

I lost my inbox and bookmarks last time though, backed up the wrong files dammit.

fuck that. I'll get the techy people to do it for free, though I will lose everything I've downloaded plus my bookmarks. I'm just worried it will back up an infected file.

I just want some device that rids my 'puter from spyware entirely.

My company did my re-image. I had to put all my own stuff in a single folder which was then backed up, and everything else got blitzed. They reimaged and copied back over the folder.

Anyone who's interested in a free software firewall should look into sygate, works like a charm. I wouldn't recommend zonealarm.

Imaging is different. Basically next time you reformat your machine and install all new programs that you use ... all the goodies, etc. Then use Norton Ghost while all is still fresh and virgin to create an "image". Then next time your PC gives you a hard time you use this image to blow everything away and start from scratch. All it takes is like 10-15 minutes rather than 3-4 hours to reformat and reinstall everything from scratch ...

Oh yeah, and keep all your docs on a separate partision or a separate HD ... this way you never have to worry about shit like that get infected.

Yeah I figured there was more to it. But I don't mind sitting around for hours on end reinstalling an OS, I do it for fun sometimes. Wait, that sounds like System Restore on Windows XP, it's like the flux capaciter for computers. No Delorean though, sucks.

I'm using Firefox and it's great. It's not perfect, but it'll do. Does it accept Java? I haven't bothered to read the website.

There's a plugin for Java. You can probably get it via mozilla.org or just wait until you come up on a Java site and click the green puzzle piece thingymabob.

You realise that IE is riddled with flaws that make drive-by installs of malware possible? That coupled with the various RPC exploits floating round mean that you get get all sorts of shitware on your PC without a. knowing it and b. even doing anything.

The XP SP2 firewall and some form of NAT is usually more than adequate. Kernel-level firewalling is always that bit better than a third party program (go go iptables!).

check out the new AntiSpyware Beta from Microsoft ... tried it and did some deep scans and turns out I did have some hidden spyware on my pc ... :erk:
nothing major but it did a good job on finding shit.

the MS beta program works really good. it got a bunch of shit that Adaware and spybot didn't get. I've still got shit on my IE at home, but I use Firefox exclusively while at home, so.......
