Is it right that the age(s) of a band, artist, author or such like should be "adjusted" to appeal to a particular target audience?

im only 20 so i dont need to worry about age catching up on me just yet however changing ur age to appeal to a certain market is out of order if they have the talent in what ever field they are in they shouldnt need to change a thing people will like them regardless
