My cave
Hi guys!!

I've a six string guitar and I am thinking about buy a seven string guitar.

My Guitar is a Ibanez RG321MH (25'5" scale lenght)
I've changed the pickups:
Seymour Duncan Blackouts Metal AHB-2 (Bridge) and EMG 60 (Neck)

My tune is B drop (B F#B E G# C#)
Here's a small shitty test of the music I make (guitar and drums only)

I am thinking about a 7 string 27" scale lenght because I've read they sound tighter. Yeah, I Know that this will not make me play the guitar better but perhaps is better suited to the music I play.

Any opinion of changing from six to seven strings?
Do you recommend me any brand or model?
(similar quality to which I have)

Cheers!

7 strings are for gay
search for any high end schecter or ltd if you don't mind having a guitar everyone else has, but good for the money
or get an esp horizon 7 if money is not that much of an issue

Mehh. I'd rather play a 6 string tuned to B or lower. Baritone 6 string if you want.

Either way, I like Ibanez necks, so Ibanez is my recommendation.

Yeah, that ESP is a LOT of money, too much, I'm just under a attack of gas but do not have so much money. I have heard that Schecter are good.

I think 8s or better than 7s.
I find 8 or 9 strings too similar to my bass

I guess my guitar is not baritone?
Agree with Ibanez, I love mine.
I have think about this one: Ibanez GRG7221
But it's only 244 € and I think I'd have to change the pickups.
Good guitars with good pickups already installed are very expensive.

Thanks for your fast answers and recommendations!

If you are planning on buying this Ibanez GRG7221, and not yet using all 6 six strings you have now, it's pointless getting a 7 string or even an 8 string.

No, a 25.5" scale is most definitely not baritone. Your 25 foot 1/2 inch one is, though.

I got an LTD EC 407 7 about a year ago and I love it. About $800, $900.

That's a nice guitar

Just thinking about it, and yes... I'm not a guitar pro, this is just a hobbie.
And for sure I can do good metal without buying that guitar.

But I feel that playing with 7 string I can go further(?)
Playing A-E-A-D-G-B-E (Drop A in 7 string)
is more likely to play Drop B in 6 string
(or maybe It's just an attack of gas)

I have a very poor English but I guess that is a joke :loco:

Well, I love that I have 7 stringed guitar, because I love sound of low A or B. I hated that I couldn't play standard tuning on 6 stringed without retuning all (and that wasn't option, because band I was in, were playing on drop A + that required thicker string gauge).
Now I make songs mostly drop D and if I wan't to have a taste of meat I can use 7th string too. Also that give wider access on fret-board.

I have an LTD SC607B and a Schecter ATX C7, very different guitars (scale length, wood, finger board) and i love them both. If you don't mind a thick neck then you can't go wrong with a Schecter, that's if you can put up with their naff fret board inlays. The Schecter does sound better, imo, than the LTD i have but when I pick up the LTD after the Schecter, the increase in quality is palpable, it's just that I think the LTD is a bit bright for my taste.

I jumped from 6 to 7s in the hope that the extra string might inspire some creativity, it did not - but if i pick up a 6 now it feels far too thin for me and i am keeping those bad boys now and I do not regret buying them. I think you have to ask your self why you want 7 strings, it it to tune low? Because you can down tune your 6 if that's the case, set up by your local professional of course.

that's what I think about seven string guitars :)

7-String guitar has a different philosophy from a 6-string.
That doesn't mean it's better or worst, but it's different. It's a new dimension on chords basically.
Prometheus from Emperor for example, was with a 7-string.
Of course if you want to play on the lower 2/3 strings,it's the same with a 6-string.

I have a 7-string Schecter which I really like and was my main guitar for a few years. But I've gone back to sixes in B standard tuning, I don't really need the extra high string and a six just feels so much better in my hands.
