See, I wouldn't be sruprised if the goal is partially to keep people from accessing non-mainstream music. You're always going to be able to burn the new Britney Spears album Too many people have it. Surely the big companies know this.
But blocking acess to, say Enslaved, online means it's much harder for people to discover, sample and get into that kind of music. Not that enslaved is necesarily dipping into britney's sales, but when you add up all the underground rock, metal, punk, rap, hardcore, DJ music and so on, I'm sure it amounts to a moderate chunk of the industry, a chunk that competes with the Big Five labels. Hurting AG, primarily hurts the Big Five's compitition.
Also, forlorn's FTP site is pretty good and he's cool and helpful if you're new. If even a quarter of the list join and start uploading their shit, it'll be fucking awesome.
