I mean Ive run into people who say they like death metal and then say they like death metal like Disturbed and Mudvayne, am I lost or conufused or what? Some people dont even consider In flames death metal anymore. In a way Im glad because when I first found out about death metal it was CAnnibal Corpse, Six Feet Under, Krisiun, etc... and i really dont like that stuff, Its all the vocals. I think the first time i heard Lindberg and that shrieky throat ripping vox thats when i decided I liked death metal, but i wouldnt even call it that. Death metal is a limited sub genre to me, adding the word melodic helps, ( SOILWORK, INFLAMES, DARK TRANQUILITY) because its opens a small portion of that genre up to change and difference. I think in a way Soilwork and Inflames etc. are a a god sent , if nobody changed or added anything then wed have 100 bands that all sound like the same guttaral blast beating am i belching or throwing up band. The only band i really like in the quote un quote death genre is AMon Amarth. I think of In Flames as just a really good metal band and i always call it Swedish melodic thrash metal , People just give this blank confused stare when i say that though. To me death is limited and thank god bands have branched out cause Id hate to go to record and pick out either cannibal corpse or Iron maiden, or Slipknot, even though i love maiden , i already have all their stuff so my options would be none.I dont like Slipknot either.
