God, I've been interested in hearing some Shape of Despair for fucking ages now! I keep forgetting about them...

Although I'm not familiar with much, I really like the idea of Funeral Doom. Taking doom to the next level!

never even heard of that...that genre is new to me i need to check these guys out.
Think of the slowest doom song you know, then make it twice as slow and you have funeral doom ;) You do really need to be in the mood for it, and the songs will take a while to get your head around, but it's cool stuff. Thergothon more-or-less invented it back in I think '92 with Stream From The Heavens, but they then proceeded to break up  Shape of Despair are worth checking out too (although I don't like the vocals, but hey)

It was rereleased in 2000, so it's not too hard to get hold of

Really?
I guess I have to give it a try once more. Usually it's not very difficult to get hold of 'underground' stuff here in Germany, but in Thergothon's case...
Then again I don't have a credit card, otherwise I'd order it directly from Avantgarde. Oh well, let's see if my local store can do anything about it.

The other day I downloaded a couple of samples from Shape of Despair's 'Angels of Distress' album, and Oh My Fucking God!!!

If I see it in a store, I'm buying it, if not, I'm ordering it!!

How about Pasi Koskinen's (sp?) death voice? Blew me away!

I must be the only person who doesn't really think "Angels of Distress" is all that special. My initial feeling (after hearing lots of good things about it) was that of disappointment. Too much synths, too "romantic" sounding... And the songs seemingly go nowhere. The first one, for example, stops right when it's about to develop into something epic. I must not be "getting it" yet. I'm going to give it yet another try right about now however...

Agreed.
