What state in the US has/had the best scene/bands?

I definitely think New York. They had the best dm bands, as well as good thrash and metalcore bands. Florida had more dm bands in the ealy 90s, but New York had better bands on the whole. So I think New York has the best metal all around. Anyone who answers California needs to have their head checked out.

I'd say either California (Neurosis) or Massachusetts (lots of hardcore/noise bands)

I suppose it depends what you are into. I do not really like Bay Area thrash very much, so that's why it is not California in my opinion. NY as lots of tech death like Suffocation, Immolation, Internal Bleeding, Pyrexia, Skinless. And that is my favorite genre. NY also has some veteran thrash acts like Anthrax and Nuclear Assault, as well as tons of metalcore bands. But NY style death is my favorite genre. And I live in Boston by the way.

This is based solely on the merits of death/thrash since no state produced more than a few competent BM bands; New York.

New York wins because it has a wider variety of Metal-some of the best Thrash AND some of the best Death.
