Whats bands would I be into?

Dream Theater are fine for getting into prog, but I find they get very bland very quickly.

I made a huge list of great prog bands somewhere, I'll try and find it.

Found it:
Spiral Architect (Tech-Prog)
Behold...The Arctopus (Tech-Prog/Fusion)
Canvas Solaris (Tech-Prog)
Cynic (Tech-Death/Prog/Fusion?)
Pagan's Mind (Power/Prog)
Symphony X (Power/Prog (I assume you've heard of them though))
To-Mera (Prog with female vocals)
Aghora (Prog/Fusion with female vocals)
Threshold (Prog)
Spastic Ink (Tech-Prog)
Shadow Gallery (Prog)
Andromeda (Prog and my favourite band)
Scale the Summit (Prog)
Outworld (Prog with speed/heavy metal influence)
Continuo Renacer (Tech-prog)
Athiest(Deathrash/Fusion/Prog)
Psychotic Waltz (Prog)
Sieges Even (Prog)
Vanden Plas (Prog/Power)
Electrocution 250 (Tech/Prog/Speed/...Cartoon Music?)
Electro Quarterstaff (Tech-prog)
late Death (Prog/Death)
Lykathea Aflame (Prog/Death)
Zero Hour (Prog)
Communic (Prog/Power)
Circus Maximus (Prog)

Best there in my opinion are Spiral Architect, Spastic Ink, Behold...The Arctopus, Andromeda and Blotted Science

Holy shit. Can we be friends?? You actually have really good taste, much better than most on this board.

The only thing I don't agree with you about is Dream Theater. Their early stuff never gets boring to me, as well as Scenes From a Memory 2... Their later stuff is not nearly as good, but the reason it's not rewarding is because everything's too memorable. Their early stuff is great though.

Haha, thanks. I agree that some of their stuff is really good, like metropolis pt.1 and the two instrumentals from scenes (Overture 1928 and Dance of Eternity if my memory serves) and I guess you're right about it not being rewarding due to memorability. Although I see the memorability issue as stemming from simplicity in ideas in such songs which would be classed as memorable by them. It seems that either they go for wankery or full on melody with very little interesting musical ideas, they never strike a balance.
This is all just my opinion of course, the music I enjoy most is generally based around intricacies in the musical structure, implementation and ideas so, as usual it all comes down to tastes.
