Whats so good about Kick10 and Snare12a?

The picolo off the d4 is my favorite so far i feel it just gives any snare more attack if i put it low in the mix, no wonder andy used to use it so much hahah

Also, lyric video's are the gayest fad since the overuse of autotune. I just don't understand the appeal of this at all. It's not like any of these vocalists are fucking poets in the first place, and this is just drawing attention to how absolutely crap their lyrics are!

Sure, they work OFTEN if you're trying to pump out the same old tired fucking Sturgis-core style mix.

Everyone "LIKES" them so much because, indeed for a fact, Joey Sturgis mentioned in a few threads on here that these were the Kick and SNR samples he was using, and he said some other good things about them and even how to process them the way he does.

SO, of course everyone has Slate Drums and a few weeks, maybe months go by and I see these two samples listed on 50% of the stuff in the Rate My Mix section, and it continues to this day!

Ultimately though it's not only the samples that are going to make something Sturgiscore, there are a million other elements in the mix that are going to decide that, not to mention the music.

Get more people to buy yours and Lasse's samples and the problem goes away, albeit partially.

I think the appeal is they look cool (sometimes) and are way cheaper than making a music video

It's not like it's even that great a sound to be trying to imitate in the first place.

Makes you wonder if it was possible back in the day for every wannabee band to sound exactly like the Beatles would they have, seems most tried to, nowadays it's possible to sound super-generic so I guess it's just par for course.

Come on, people. Bad mixing engineer will never get a pro sounding record even using slate k10, catharsis pres5, lepou plugins, zombass etc. It WILL make his life easier but it still won't sound kickass.
Shit will dry up and fall off. True talents will remain. There's no need to remind ourselves that making our own sample libraries and using real amps is more creative, original and professional.

Speaking of kick10 - I love it. Just don't turn the "oh" off or it will get some nasty rattling as if it's skins are too loose. So don't turn oh off and use envelop shaping to make it shorter and faster. It will sound glorious in many rock/metal mixes.

I've never had that much luck with the top end on kick ten, just always feels too plasticy for me and doesn't have enough of an airy splat like some other kicks, the low end is fine but I've never liked it that much until it was mixed with something else.

I don't know if I've actually ever used Kick 10 in a mix but I know it's not the worst kick sample in the package.

I probably use kick 6 or something. I honestly don't know which because after I find a sample that doesn't suck I just move on, I don't memorize it.

BTW, I asked Slate about Kick 10 last week.

@theaudiogeek I used an Shure SM91, original AKG D12, FET 47, Yamaha Woofer mic, C12 overhead, U87 Room Mic on the now famous "KICK 10"

I'm gonna have to come in and call bullshit on that! I did the Bury Tomorrow record and although you may feel that about the music there's no slate samples whatsoever in there, no POD, no Axe, I even mixed it on an aws 900+ and CJ mastered it.

I actually think it's the only song that sounds completely different from all the rest you posted (production wise) looool
