What's the difference between Grindcore and Death Metal?

I know this question may be really obvious but all the bands i've listened to which are considered Grindcore sound the same as Death - Powerchords, fast drums, dark music, growly vocals.

So could someone please fill me in on the details?

I've always seen that Death bands have more of a defined groove to the rhythms where as Grind just tries to be 100% all the time

I'm sure you've heard of or listened to Napalm Death. That's grindcore. You can tell the difference between grindcore and death metal easiest because of the major punk influence in grindcore.

death metal has more bands that fall under the "utterly pathetic" umbrella. even weak grind bands ultimately end up accoplishing their initial goals, those being 1. play grind and 2. keep playing grind.
