:OMG:Is it gonna have most of the same samples in it??
Is it just as good as 2.0?? or is it like an upgrade nothing too different?

I wanna pick it up but if its completely different i just pick up 2 instead
Those sound awesome

Most of the snares from 2.0 have been tweaked so they sound much better, also a few extra kits and the 3.0 standalone software based on the Kontakt engine. So yeah...quite different!

u know u want 3.0! GET EM!!!:heh:

i am pretty sure our boy steven makes some of the finest samples known to mankind. i recall a time when i thought dfh wuz the shit but now i will fuckin puke if i hear one more song that uses the dfh default snare:yuk:

All the kicks in 2.0 sound the same to me in 3.0 which is a bit of a shame, because the kicks are the weakest link in the package in my opinion. For straight up metal at least its really hard to disguise kick5 yet its much fuller sounding than kick15. For rock and other styles the kicks are fine however. Still searching for my ideal kick sound.

alot of people i know use the samples just for overlaying with real drums so i don't see why it would be worth upgrading to 3.0 when 2.0 is already enough.

a cut at 200hz on the kick is enough for me in most cases

The standalone software alone is worth the upgrade plus it costs the same anyway. Not too mention the extra snares and the old ones which have been tweaked.

i think the cymbals sound horrible

and i haven't really gotten the kontakt player to fit into my workflow yet...

Regardless of the cymbals you still get the interface which allows you to merge the rooms and other samples quicker and easier along with its internal FX. Plus if you have a V-drums kit you can use it in standalone.

If slate released a drum only version of 3.0 id shit myself. I have no use for kontakt or the cymbals but would love to try the new snares. I think alot of people are just using the drum samples to blend with real drums, so i cant really justify spending the money on stuff i have no use for.

although i have no doubt in my mind that the slate samples are the best samples around for metal, and i'd love to use them, its highly unlikely i'll ever buy them

this is due to slate's backward policy on re-sale of the samples. i'm not even entirely sure if it's legal. lets just say if you ever decide that you need the money, and think the samples should be sold.. you're screwed.

thanks,

Sorry, but that's bullshit. Go and check the EULA of most sample based instruments - you cannot sell them in a lot of cases, and in most other cases where you can sell them, a license transfer is applicable.

2.0 is discontinued.. any retailer still advertising it probably has 3.0 but hasn't updated their webpage.

Upgrades from 2.0 to 3.0:

- all new upgraded snares
- new snares, kicks
- new paiste cymbal pack.. (hi hat 3 sounds killer in metal)
- new NRG ROOM sounds (this is huge, and adds a whole new sound dimension)
- new included player for VST, RTAS, AU

for metal kicks, don't forget that kick5,15,panty, and metallica are not the only ones.. you can slap an eq on 1A, 4, Chili Kick, Dream Kick... and also combine kicks to create new sounds.

I'll have a mix coming soon where I discuss tweaking cymbals for good metal tones.. The only bad comments on the cymbals have come from a few people on this forum.. Most people are diggin them way more then cymbals found on a lot of other collections since we have some nice tape sat on them... Hi Hat 2 and 3 are sick for metal.. you'll hear it soon.

BTW.. LE is now $149 and has some great stuff in it..

As for resale... If everyone bought the software, loaded them on their machine, then sold them.. there would be no more sample library companies. If you can't decide based on the hundreds of demos that we offer and the thousands of demos on the web and at your local record store.. then I dunno...

We are considering breaking up the Virtual Instrument side and the Wav/Gog Replacement side. What you guys think?

BTW in a recent poll we took, most of the people who purchased our software since February are using it as a full virtual instrument.. drum replacement is in the minority now for 3.0..

prices will be changing on LE for retail this week... contact us crosstalk and we'll take care of it..

i bought le a while back, but only got it about a week ago due to printing issues....didnt know you were going to lower the price down...really had to stretch my poor student budget for it :(

I bought Pro Tools Mix Plus for ten grand, two weeks before they announced HD (they said HD was a year away)... My investment was near worthless within six months. If anyone gets to complain, its ME!
