Whats wrong with my Cabinet ? (audio clip inside)

If it doesn't sound like that in the room, the problem is probably not with the cab but with something in the microphone chain. The weird flubby sound makes me think that the microphone itself is fucked. Do you have another mic to try with?

I've never gotten the sound I hear in the room with the mics...How can you judge the sound of a loud guitar cabinet in the room and compare it with the miced one? And also mics capture different sound than your ear. I usually judge the sound of the mic

I don't think that is the problem Hayden is having. Ofcourse a mic has its own frequency response, but in the sample there is some very ugly farting going on. If the cab would do that so badly, it would surely be audible in the room.

EDIT: Maybe your microphone stand is shaking along with the palmmutes for some reason? or some other object nearby?

Listen to the bass response when i palm mute, it kind of distort and its not like that when i put my head against the speaker

What's your preamp? Are you sure you're not overloading it? I used to get a similar sound when I accidentally overloaded the pres on my old tascam tape recorder.

Im using an M-Audio Firewire Solo and im not overloading it, although the gain was very high on it because i was recorded at a pretty low volume..but still, it didnt clip..

Then you have a fvcked speaker it sounds like. Also, make sure the back of the cab is screwed on tight.

EDIT: Eeeeeeewwww actually listened to the clip. You might have a blown speaker.

100% the mic.
just touched the mic a on its silver head few times, sometimes it lacks bass, sometimes it gives too much bass...anyway, this is what i got now :
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/40566417/test12.mp3 - first is a single track and than doubled..
way to much low mids ? i was recording with hardly any bass...

btw..the amp is a dual recto..

That sounds much better! Glad you at least know what the problem is now. I guess it could be that the silver "cage" somehow got a bit loose and vibrates with the sound or something like that?

haha, I honestly have no idea, it could be anything really...
what can i do to make these low mids go away but still keep the fullness of the sound ? or is it still a problem with the mic ? cuz i hardly used any bass when recording this :P
