Whee, the UM server eats posts now

some chimp ripped some dudes balls and fingers off? I should watch the news I guess. did the chimp have some sort of knife or blade? I don't see how he'd be able to rip the dude's fingers off with sheer brute force. Or are we talking a bigass ape here?

Chimps are very strong animals, saw some nature documentary about them were they claimed that a grown one could rip the arm of basically any man; a ball sack would propably be like picking nuts from a tree... :loco:

lolz what the fuck is a "CPU kernel"

you beat me to it

I fail to see how a kernel update is going to improve an issue that's probably down to you running a forum with 3,000,000+ posts on it (lol pruning 4 year old posts is stupid huh) on hardware that can't handle it.

Hehe yeah, perhaps Deron is hurling technical terms about in hope to hide the fact that nothing is actually being done to improve the present lousy performance (or can be done by him?).

Indeed. I'm sure deleting posts over 6 months old would go some way to making things a bit zippier, as well as deleting the 548,984,217 users that have been registered for two years but have never logged in or posted anything. mySQL has known slow-down problems with tables with more than 2,000,000 rows in them, iirc.

PLEASE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo

I dig up 2 year old threads here all the time, as do many others. Sure some bands have 120 threads dedicated to them like Hammers of Misfortune, but there are many many others where great discussions take place and spend most of their time sitting near the bottom. Like the Home Recording thread, I consult that one on a regular basis, and it hasn't been bumped for ages.

I still look at old posts too. I love the pics of hott guys.
I agree with deleting the old members who have 0-10 posts and haven't been here in 3 years. If they come back, they can reregister.

Well what they should do is make an archive sub-forum for each forum, where the moderator can place threads that are free from pruning. Then, turn pruning on for all the other forums so that threads get deleted after a few months. If a thread is a keeper, then the mod can just move it into the archive and it'll be preserved forever. Another forum I post on does this and it works fine, but it sort of requires an active and competent mod, something only a few forums on UM seem to have. Like, virtually none of the band forums.

I've received the following new error message twice today (but for the record the forums are still running way more smoothly the past few days than they had been):

Network Error (tcp_error)

A communication error occurred: "" The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time.

I've never had that error reported so I will check it out. Thanks for posting it. I made some changes yesterday and the server seemed to run much better today but I'll keep checking it.

Fuck this server

Error description for whatever it's worth:
After some fifteen minutes of surfing (the RC board, dunno if this is due to that I don't spend much time on the other forums) the server stops responding I can't open any threads but get no error message just a time out it seems, when trying to connect. Then if I sit for some minutes hammering it sometimes start working again, but other times I simply get an error message saying the browser can't connect.

This seriously needs to be fixed, let's see some action; do a backup and change something drasticly... or something, bleh I don't know
