Where are ze German bands?

I grew up listening to german power and thrash metal bands in the late 80's, early 90's.
There were tons of them and very good, specially in Noise label. I think in my top 10 bands 5 or 6 bands are from germany... it's a pity the scene has changed.

Long live german metal reich!

^ My bro used to listen to all the old german thrash & power metal bands as his inspiration to improve his double bass ... if you asked him why he warmed up for 15 minutes before each rehearsal with ankle weights on as he did fast double bass patterns to his metronome he would just say "German legs are better" :p

He's also a cheap bastard so maybe something else worked its way in unintentionally

"German legs are better" :p

but things are changing and so the Germans will follow I'm sure

only if the leader is an Austrian...
but for real, I know loads of bands that could spend money on recording, but they just don't think
that good production matters enough and if they want to spend some money, they leave the country
most of the time :D
For example, a good friend of mine played drums in a death metal band a few years ago, the saved
some money and went to poland to record at studio hertz.

And like I said before, many bands break up before they record at a studio, or they go to a studio, but
need 5-6 years, to write the stuff before recording, I know some guys from bands that are actually pretty
good that exist over 10-20 years, most of them went to a studio once or twice, but they have like 60 songs...

This is a general mentality-problem, as long as its lodged in the austriagerman heads that music is "just a hobby", nobody sees it like any other business, you need to spend money to make money. People will pay huge sums to drink or go on tour, because it directly benefits them in the moment (fun) but most do not realize the long-term impact of really good recordings and therefore do not percieve a value matched to the money invested.
