I'd thought I'd make this thread to consolidate various other related threads on the board concerning people who have recently 'discovered' a band they like for the first time, and their rampant enthusiasm to share it with us kind folk.

I was going to put this in the Opeth music board, but thought it would be of more benefit here as more people will be able to exchange and view posts and start each other on sublime musical discoveries, which is what I hope the thread will do ;)

I'm not necessarily meaning just any band you come across, more a band that makes you react much in the way the little smilie is reacting in the thread title :D....a band that you hear one track by and you know that it's 'a click' within, and you have to get more immediately to satiate your sudden hunger.

I'll start by relating that I discovered Dargaard recently (thanks to a thread in here :)), a great 2 piece with a folk/goth/ambient feel to it....early Mortiis, Arcana and Ataraxia come to mind as similar artists.

Enjoy :D

The first thing I heard by Amorphis was the "Black Winter Day" video and I knew that i would love them by the end of the song.
I started hearing a song by Siedenbürgen that I'm downloading and that one is great as well. Finntroll was another good one.

I find that when I instantly love a band, I usually won't like them for very long. Its the music that has to grow on you that you end up loving.

But I've been listening to the new Isis and its pretty cool.

I've heard quite a few new bands (new to me, that is) lately, but the only one I've really liked is Kingston Wall. I had heard them before, but I only listened to their first album through briefly, so I didn't grasp the whole idea of the band. The vocals sound kinda bad at first, but you get used to them, and even if you don't, just listening to the drummer will make you cream. ;)

Glad I could help. ;)

I love the new Arcana song, "Innocent Children." I'm going to have to buy that album when it comes out. :D

You can d/l it at http://arcana.coldmeat.se/ too.

I also, recently, have gotten some interest in buying albums by In The Woods and Evereve...

Yeah, got that one yesterday, I check the Cold Meat page regularly :) It's still the same Arcana, just seems slightly not as inspirational after listening to Sophia. Is hard to find Cold Meat stuff regularly on WinmX, let a lone anywhere :(

I've been trying for ages to get a hold of Veds Buen Ende (but is it spelt Ved Buens Ende?), heard ok things about the project.

Amorphis my brother got me onto, but I haven't really felt anything much for them, except the instrumentals (Tales Form The Thousand Lakes!!!) and My Kantele.

Want to get hold of Virgin Black, and can anyone recommend a 'first-time' Agalloch track that might get me hooked? Please :)

I notice there are some bands where I like them the first time I hear them, but it turns out to just be one good track and the rest are mediocre, but there are some where I really get into the first track, and the next 3 or 4 as well. I like to think about whether a band becomes a favourite based on the tracks you hear the first time...what would havev happened if I had heard a differnt track first? Would I like them as much?

I have to agree though, the artists that seem promising but not spectacular at first, but then really grow over time are my favourite experiences :)

King Crimson (I now own their entire back catalogue, and the newer ones)
Dark Tranquility (its true!)
Yes (close to the edge, its mint)
Black Sabbath
Judas Priest
Ulver
and...Bad Company (drum and bass from England, sorry I guess I'm not a metal purist ps. for drum and bass it is pretty fucking awesome!, some nice tunes)

edit. whoops forgot Queens of the Stone Age!
pps. Dave Grohl's drumming on the new album is exceptional, I used to think he was a very limited drummer, but he can truly lay down the beat when he has to.

Enid
Elend
Aeternus

and *gasp* Vanessa Carlton. This chick sings better than any bubble gum pop slut and actually plays an instrument. However she's not as good looking as Britney or Christina. I think Britney and Christina should just give up on singing and do porn.
