Give me some real and true musical opinion. Which "Death" album should I get, "Individual Thought Patterns" or "Symbolic"? Simple question, but give a complete answer. Thanx in advance!!

Fantastic albums, both destroy. ITP is a bit more savage and complex. Symbolic is catchier, with tons of groove and stunning melodies.

That pretty much says it. Also, the production on Symbolic is better, so that may be easier to get into. In the end, you'll be better off owning both, but my favorite is Symbolic.

.

couldn't of put it better. it's a very hard decision. still ... if it was the proverbial single album to take with you on an island i'ld say ....... Symbolic. Because every single song is a killer on that one.

Sound of Perseverance is amazing as well, Death at their most progressive moment.

Definitely. That one was the first Death album I bought and I deemed it best for a while. But recently I changed my mind a little and nowadays I'ld say that ITP and Symbolic are best.

For all its glorious parts and moments, I think the flow of TSoP is often broken and therefor you sometimes loose the connection, the feeling. With ITP and Symbolic this just never happens. Also, for all its progressiveness TSoP also sometimes feels a little dry and just a bit too technical.

ITP is definitely the most brutal, the fastest, the heaviest Death album. Symbolic takes a little step back and has more melody, more harmony. So, yeah, it's "catchier" if one can say such a thing about such extreme progressive death metal.

Thanx to everyone for you helpful posts. I own SOP and it is excellent. Just not to fond of Chuck's vocals on SOP, sound too high-pitched for my taste, in extreme death. Probably should just fuckin' get them all, huh? How are the vocals on "Symbolic" and ITP?
