Which Drum Samples Do You Find Yourself Using A Lot?

"How do you go about finding the D4 samples, or samples from other drum modules/drum machines for that matter? Do you have to buy them, and if so where, or are they freely traded now? I know 808/909 samples can be bought from lots of companies, but I'm talking about samples that aren't geared toward Electronic music.

Sorry, not trying to hijack the thread, I was just curious."

I found this:
http://waveformless.blogspot.ca/2011/11/free-sample-friday-alesis-d4.html

Havent tried them or anything, not sure of the quality.

50% superior drummer, 25% slate and 25% nashville snares.
I'm looking for new tom samples, though. I've been using the avatar toms for the most part. any recommendations?

LSD, sometimes Slate, sometimes a little Toontrack Metal Machine and whatever I use I blend with my own custom samples that I then mix against and blend in with the drummer's kit so no matter what things sound different each time.

"everyone" uses SSD, so why not stand a little Off Center??? ;)

I feel the exact opposite about Superior. "Everyone" used/uses Superior, granted there's a LOT of people that use SSD now. I've never used Superior Drummer, but lately I've been experimenting with blending and eq'ing different snares together in SSD4.

Kick 10 and Snare 12!!! hahah (too old already)

so much rave about those Nashville samples man...i just bought them...hehe

i mainly use Slate's CLA's samples for snare and kick and Never toms.

Hehe, Snare 12 with SSD room always works as a blending snare with another more unique snare sample.

Try our toms too! They're HUGE. Maybe too huge. FYI, new snare pack in the works, 7 snares, real room, all analog.

Nashville samples are my favorite pack out there and blending some Slate underneath is a combo I use a lot for my last mixes. Please create a 5-tom Nashville sample pack!!! I haven't bought LSD yet, but I'll soon check them.

Platinum Samples Evil Drums (Joe Barresi)
Toontrack TMF

believe it or not, me and my clients are very happy with Toontrack Superior stuff
especially nowadays - "everyone" uses SSD, so why not stand a little Off Center??? ;)

I'm in the same seat. I usually show the people I'm recording my other options and we always seem to end up back to some sort of toontrack frankenkit.

They are both pretty over used at this point. The difference for me is that (for whatever reason) it's easier to come up with something unique in superior compared to SSD where I feel like everything has slate's sound on it.

Absolutely.

I think that now Pros use SSD little more than SD.
So there is some space for experimenting with SD.
Just my opinion...

Now Im very happy when I combine sounds from Evil / TMF / Avatar and I feel a little different from others which is good I think..

Nothing wrong with SSD, but I prefer SD for now.

Well, I picked up the VR Music full bundle, because they sound amazing and $32 Australian dollars for the whole pack is a steal...
Now to find some new cymbals!

Anyone knows a snare sample that sounds similar to this one?
I'm kinda getting desperate since the band im mixing wanted this specific snare sound but im finding it really hard to achieve it with the samples i got. I've got SSD 3.5 Platinum but I've havent found any that sounds really close..

That sounds to me like a Ludwig Supraphonic or Ludwig BlackBeauty

I find myself using a lot in my production Nashville Snares, Charles J one shot snares and Seraph Samples as long as these from my own stores. Very cool samples out there besides Slate ;)

Superior 2.0 with The Metal Foundry for cymbals
Superior Avatar for rooms
LSD Drums (best kicks in the world) with TMF Drums and sometimes Slate for kicks
Slate and TMF Drums for snare
Superior Avatar or TMF Drums for toms
That's it for me :D

Sounds like a lot of the sound comes from the (close) room & Overhead.
You'd be able to get close with blending something from SD2 for the room with one of the crackier Slate snares (altho those might not be raw enough for that tone)

I've been a Slate user in all of my productions for about two years now and love it to death. However, I've recently been finding a LOT of goodness in these other libraries that are sold on places like Big Cartel. Especially your's. I haven't bought them yet, but I may buy them soon. I definitely want to get your impulses. I'm budgeting for MULTIPLE things right now, so I have to kill my GAS for a bit...and it's so hard. :(

I did buy the entire Seraph library a while ago and am just now getting to use them, after some trial and error with different reverbs, which I personally like on my drums. I absolutely love these.
