Which new CD should I buy? Opeth? Disturbed? Coldplay? Scar Symmetry?

Ok gang, i'm setting myself up for some pretty harsh criticism here...

I only have enough right now to buy one CD for the next month. I'm jonesing for some new music too! First off, i'm a HUGE fan of all of the above bands and have all of their albums... so this is a tough decision. After hearing the new Opeth (no, not JUST the single/video), i'm not that impressed.

Any suggestions? (aside from stealing to get all 4 ;)

This is hard to say, opinions are like a** ....well you know the rest....
So my opinion is:
Disturbed- I don't like, so no there.
Coldplay- from the tiny bit I heard is a no. Some song about things being yellow...

-Opeth vs Scar Symmetry-

Do I want to listen to the captian of a pirate ship who turns into cookie monster for a month?
or
Do I want to listen to the cookie monster that turns into an 80's style singer for a month?

I'm gonna have to say Opeth. (captian of a pirate ship who turns into cookie monster):Smokedev:

Thats 1 for Opeth. lets see what the rest say.

I really like Opeth and think they provide a freshness in the whole "Death Metal" genre. I want to like their new album, but again, from what i've heard so far, i'm not that impressed. Yet somehow I feel obligated to buy it as I have all of their other albums. I don't know why this one isn't catching my attention. Guess that's why it's called Watershed - it's a change of form and may not appeal to older Opeth fans.

I will say that what i've heard of the new Scar Symmetry is amazing! :kickass:

The new scar symmetry might be pretty bitchin'. From what I've heard from the clips it's cool. Not sure if it's out yet though... You could always pick up the latest Through The Eyes of the Dead album. It's called Malice (from 2007). :headbang:

Nope... the new SS isn't out yet, but it does come out on June 20th (North America). I only have enough to purchase 1 cd this month... so it doesn't have to be immediate.

I decided to pick-up the new Disturbed album. I know a lot of you aren't a fan of the whole image or sound they emanate, but I'm a fan. Their last album, "10,000 Fists" or whatever it's called, completely rubbed me the wrong way. I didn't care for it at all. On the oposite side of the spectrum is their new album-- Indestructible; which is a mix between the elements of The Sickness, Believe, and 10,000 Fists. This is a great album that really highlights the progression in this band.

Don't worry though... i'm still planning on getting the new Opeth, Coldplay, and Scar Symmetry... they may just have to wait 'til July. Thanks for your suggestions. Sorry I chose to go the opposite way :)

i have the new Coldplay, SS, and Opeth albums and I would have to say the new Opeth (Watershed) is by far the best. Followed up by the new Coldplay, they did some really unique recording techniques that remind me of some of the early 60's Beatles stuff that caught my interest. They changed their sound a bit to be a little darker and less U2 sounding.

buy my record!
seriously tho, I think it's hard to go wrong w/ the opeth or the scar symmetry. I think one or the other is going to make everyone's top 10 this year so...
