Been working on this mix for a LONG time, it's probly the 3rd time I've posted this song. Its our own EP and I wanna make sure I get it perfect (+all the parts still aren't recorded so I've had forever to mix it).

There's two mixes here, the first (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=823851&songID=7137330) is a more 'traditional' metal mix, guitar covering the whole spectrum, bass filling in the gaps (although doesn't sound great here.. using POD Farm and still not great at getting tones), etc. Went for a fairly natural drum sound.

Second mix (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=823851&songID=7137340) I did after listening to the 'Take This Life' multi-tracks. Basically has the guitar in the upper register, the drums in the middle and then the bass down the bottom. This is a REALLY rough mix - too extreme in the guitar's lack of low-mids/low-end, bass too loud/sounds bad - but I'm really liking it. You can hear every instrument well, and the drums have an awesome ambience about them. Just wanna hear others' opinions on it, make sure I'm not crazy ;p

So, which mix do you like better?

Dude mix 2 kills mix 1 IMO. It sounds so much cleaner. The first mix sounds kind of sterile and flat. The guitars in the second mix seem to have more presence which definitely helps. I'm interested to hear what some of the pros think about it.

2nd mix... I..

Didn't do anything at first, but then it sounded out of place compared to the naturalness of the toms, so I put a ridiculously compressed close-mic track and another OH sample (after mix-down) there.
