hey guys, im heading towards my practice space , and i'll be recording some guitars today for this new song(drums already tracked yesterday).
unfortunetly i dont have to many options but these 2:
to track them with an SM58 or with a Snare dedicated mic from a mic kit (german brand IMQ stage line i belive)

so what should i go :
1) sm58 with the grile on
2) sm 58 without the grile
3) IMQ snare mic

what do you suggest me?

Not wanting to be disrespectful but...
Why don't you try every combinations and trust your ears?:p

I'd suggest to try them all and experiment on your mic placing. My first choise would be the 58 without the grille about an inch of the cloth, pointing straight to the edge of the dust cap and the cone.

Trying things out is crazy...just nonsense.....it is going to take way to long. What you need to do is put the mics in a hat and reach in to pick one. Joke...just try them both. You learn something in the process.

thats what i did, tryed them in different combinations, mic placement, etc, and accually i liked better the IMQ snare mic over the sm58,had more body, wasnt as harsh as sm58 on the top end.thank you guys anyway....try and see whats what is definetly the way to go... :D
