Tha Nethalandz!
To learn how to play on guitar? I can play a fair deal of "Drapery" but every other song is too difficult for me. I can't fingerpick to save my life, I need a ripping song with not too difficult chords and strumming acousticks. Any ideas?? Help! Please!

well lets see

Drapery Falls isnt too bad for the most part. it is pretty tough on some parts! Deliverance is not bad but the solos are a bit tough. Demon of the Fall is pretty simple. just about every song on Still Life you can forget about except for Serenity Painted Death, the solos and the acoustic parts are the only tricky parts for me.

Thanks, I'm not really interested in solos anyway. I was actually working on Demon and Deliverance already. Their timing is just so different then what I'm used to...But I'll do my best. I won't start with Godheads thanks....

If you have some friends to play with, go with Orchid aye!

Er, kidding aside, I dunno I practice mostly lead stuff but I am at least relatively good at both finger picking (ever since the beginnin' I been good at it aye!) and rhythm/strumming, so I I'm not sure. I happen to like April Ethereal a lot, rhythm wise... And The Leper Affinity, too.

Deliverance is the easiest song ive found. Ive been playing for about 2 years now and have pretty much nailed the second solo but im having a bit of trouble with the first. My brain cant keep up with it all :ill: The rest of the song is very easy. I looked at the Still life tabs and just went :erk: Blackwater Park is another good one. The acoustic bit and the solo is quite difficult though.

April Ethereal is easy..
Deliverence is easy.. haven't tried the solos yet.. I might today..
Bleak isn't hard.. confusing if you don't have guitarpro though
In My Time of Need is easy
Advent isn't hard and its really fun to play along too.. that might be the first song I learned

First of all, learn to fingerpick, it's incredibly useful.

Second, a great song to learn is Requiem. There's a powertab of it at powertabs.net. Great easy song, and fun too.

The Night and the Silent water has very easy riffs, and you won't have to memorize too much. Plus knowing the opening riff is good enough, that thing owns.

Learn the solo on To Bid You Farewell. Play it without effects first and then add them in. It's a beautiful solo.

If you've got an acoustic guitar and a friend who plays too you might as well learn all of To Bid You Farewell, it's quite easy. Better yet, get a friend with an acoustic, and run your electric through an acoustic simulator, a wah pedal, and a distortion pedal (or get a stomp box and set those prefixes on each pedal), and you'll be able to play the whole song. Fun fun.

THE EASIEST OPETH SONG TO PLAY IS UNDOUBTEDLY FACE OF MELINDA.

Just kidding.

You're absolutely right. Learn the main guitar part to it... and you actually don't fingerpick it. You just use your pick. And learn fingerpicking... I'm pretty good at it. The intro to Benighted is easy if you nail it right, but I don't know about the rest of the song. And The Drapery Falls is their best starter death metal song. =P
