Which speakers do you listen to music on?

Non-engineering related, kinda.

I still have these Altec-Lansing speakers that I bought with my Mac years ago. Now that I'm more aware of frequency interaction, I can definitely tell how scooped they are and generally sucky.

I'm looking for some speakers, computer speakers, well...I guess regular speakers would do, for listening to my iTunes playlist and for checking mixes.

What do you use/suggest? I'm sick of these speakers and want something with better quality and not super hyped in any particular frequency, but still pleasing for casual listening.

cheers!

Myself i just find myself getting annoyed with anything that isn't decent studio monitors. The lack of detail just sucks until you start spending enough that you might as well be buying studio monitors anyway

I hear you man. Everything sounds crystal clear on my Yamaha MSP5s.

How do you guys accommodate for the shortcomings of hyped speakers when mixing?

Joe

I just listen through my monitors really, the ol' Behringer Truth B2030As.
Set the treble to minimum on the back and I'm able to listen through it for extended periods.

on most days when not using monitors, i tend to use my logitech z5500 set, lots of options and great for listening to 5.1 mixes and watching movies, playing games, whatever i need em for they serve me well.

I listen through my studio monitors, the more you listen to stuff through them the better you'll know them and therefore the better your mixes will be!

Have been listening through my monitors for the past 2 years. First the Maudio BX5a's and now the BX8a's.
I know them better than I know my ex-girlfriend.

Mostly i'm on my ipod with headphones that came with my HTC phone

Mixing/Getting ready for a night out - my KRKs

if i need tunes whilest in the living room i'm on my gfs small hifi, but the speakers on it are really nice sounding for their size and price

Yeah I guess it makes sense to use my monitors...it seems to be good training to get to know them and to understand how they will translate to other speakers (despite mastering and such).

I think getting to learn your speakers is so important, it's worth listening to everything on them exactly as they would be when you mix. Then when you listen in the car/on your ipod/on other speakers you really start to notice the differences and how particular mix elements translate from system to system

At my computer, when I'm not using the KRK 6000 studio monitors, I'm using Telex EV SonicXS4.1 speakers. They don't make them anymore but you can buy them refurbished here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250535086380

At my home theater system I have some Jamo Concert speakers and Pioneer Elite amplifier.

In my car I have Image Dynamics speakers with Precision Power amplifiers and an Image Dynamics 10-inch subwoofer. Total RMS power is 1200W.
