Do you prefer Per :D or Steve??

I was watching the DVD once again and this question popped into my mind. Now I know that some people here do not like Steve for whatever reason  but try to put that aside and give an honest answer based on "vocals alone", not whether or not you agree with his participation in the band. Be fair now.

I say Steve. I think his voice blends nicer with Mikael's. Actually, I love it and I hope that continues. I'm going by what I am hearing on the last three albums vs. the DVD. Don't get me wrong, I think Per did a fabulous job and I will say his vocals were great in Harvest but overall I prefer Steve.

I was just wondering because of the talk that Per will be the fifth member of the band now and if that means that he will be the back up vocalist instead of Steve on the next album. Curious because isn't Steve supposed to be working on the next album with them as well??? I thought I read that here somewhere.

I'm not really sure. I think even though Per fucked up alot on the DVD, that he has the ability to do the backing vocals well.

He messed up on vocals?? And do you mean his pitch he messed up on or something else?? Which songs were they, I didn't pick that up.

I don't like Steve's backing vocals on Master's Apprentice

otherwise he's fine...I'd have to hear Per in the studio to decide

I am just going to have to side with Steven Wilson on this particular question, and that would mainly be because of the minor faults Per Wiberg displayed in his vocals on the lamentations DVD. But I will not be able to answer this question quite correctly until I have heard some studio recordings of Per Wiberg's vocals.

I couldn't tell if it was that Per was making mistakes or if his voice was mixed in poorly on the DVD. There were some places as I listened where I just couldn't hear him as well as I think I should've.

i think steves voice sounds good with porcupine tree.. but when he sings along with mikael he sounds like a little whiny girl and i just wanna kick him

he does kinda have that whiny voice in a lot of porcupine tree songs too though...actually i really like that about vocalists...when u can tell that a singer has passion about his songs in the way he sings it, thats when a song can really hit u on a deeper level than that "wow this song kicks ass" level...i kno its cheesy but theres few vocalists that can sing and make me think "wow this man is emotional about his work, and his work speaks to me" and steven wilson is one of them...

so yeh i voted for wilson

as someone already mentioned, i havent heard per in the studio but from the dvd it wasnt amazing or anything, wasnt all that bad but i find steve's voice is amazing in studio. and live as well. i'd like to see opeth preform bleak with steve. im sure someone's already mentioned somehting like that or at least thought of it a billion times though. anywho, i prefer steves backing vocals. i wish peter or mendez would try singing. i think if they were even half good, it could add a lot to the life show especially with the vocal harmony parts in masters apprentice

I would have to say Steve. Per sounded horrid live.
Also, I think Mendez's accent is waaay to thick for singing backup for the band.

I find Matt Barlow's voice to do the same for Iced Earth's works

Steve wins for me; im a PT fan (sorta)

Oh, see I liked Steve's harmonies on that song and how it kicks in heavy afterwards. Per was a bit nasal on the DVD during that part. hehe.
