Who here plays Gibson guitars

I use to play Ibanez until I picked up a Les Paul. Ibanez are making really cheap guitars now adays. I have a Gothic Les Paul and a ESP Eclipse. I am looking to get a another Les Paul. They just have more to them than those thin Ibanez's. Ibanez's do not have half the tone that a solid LP has.

Once you play a Gibson, you never go back!

I play a B.C. Rich warlock rave II and i must say than an affordable b.c. rich puts an expensive ibañez to shame. Gibsons are good for clean sounds and sound great for jazz but still i wouldnt give up my b.c. rich for anything once you play one there is no going back. If anyone disagrees its because one of three reasons: 1)not using it for metal 2) sentimental value of another guitar 3) hasnt played a b.c. rich

and btw ibañez 7th strings suck if you want a 7th just try and pick up a 7th string Beast that is a real beauty.

hmmm. I disagree. I can not stand B.C rich's. They are cheap guitars. No, I play metal. I can get a fucking thick tone with my LP going through a Laney VH100R. Have you ever played a Paul?

Odd to say that B.C Rich's sound better.

thanks for your opinion!

:(

i have to respond to this, because you are wrong The BC Riches you are referring to are cheap imports. The NJ's are the 'top import' series, and they are actually pretty darn good, i would say a lot better than Ibanez( but that's my opinion).

These imports are in NO WAY comparable to the original USA handmade BC Riches like you may have seen Slayeror Slash(yes, bfore he used his Les Paul), use. They start from somewhere $2800 and are totally custom made. I happened to own one( a 1995 Eagle Archtop Supreme) and it is a work of art, NO Gibson can touch.

You xcan recognize the originals by the fact that there is NO 'BC Rich' on the headstock, only a big "R"

for your information: Gibsons nowadays all come from the conveyor belt, the original factory where the high-quality Gibsons used to be made, is now making the guitars under the name of Heritage.

Gibson still has the name of being the best, but any guitar 'expert' will agree that they do no longer make them as they used to.
apart from that, i noticed a recent trend in metal musicians starting to use Les Pauls, and i don't know why. They play like a tank, they only come in 22 frets, have difficult upper-fret access. Even Ibanez(which i hate) at least play easily and fast.

Just a bit of info, i have been studiying lutherie lately and looked at different companies. There are so many high-quality instruments out there, who don't get the attention, because Gibson and Fender have the name and reputation. Shame Gibson doesn't make instruments anymore that justify that reputation. And then i am not even mentioning their prices. Well, i am done now

for some info on USA BC Riches, have a look at:

:D :D

Hi!

Im sorry, but all of your comments still do not change my mind about them. Thanks for your information. Les Pauls have a tone that no BC Rich has with EMG's as well. And I don't know what LP you have played, but mine plays like a dream! Smooth action, and I do not have trouble reaching the higher frets, it all depends on how you have your guitar setup!

Erm, I'm not sure your right about that, my US custom made left-handed Ironbird has BC Rich written on the headstock.

I agree with you about the quality of them though.

MindMorgue.

you're right about the logo, but i believe only the 'written name logo' appears/appeared on:

Exclusive
Conti 8-string
old tilted sharp headstock

I am a real BC Rich lover, and although it is also a big part of the past, i think it is a shame 80's hair-metalbands gave BC Rich a name of only making cheap, radical and wild colored shredders. Truth is that BC Rich has a many 'conservative' models as radical models. Many guitar-snobs choose a brand with a more 'tradtional IMAGE' like PRS and Gibson Les Paul or even Fender(am i the only one who HATES them?). Guess people still go for the name on the headstock :/

well, that leaves more exclusive and at the same time cheaper high-quality guitars for me. :D

hey antithesis!
Be assured that you are not the only one who hates gibsons and fenders (the telecaster is the ugliest thing I've ever seen in my whole life, apart from people eating shit).
At least when it comes to basses (ergodyne series) ibanez is not that bad at all although their effect-pedals are quite crappy (7th heaven??? shit...).
doobidoo:goggly:

I never said Les paul guitars where bad in fact i would get one in no time for my jazz interludes and acustic parts, they are DAMN FINE guitars because they got a great clean sound and a damn good heavy sound to complement.

And other thing just because i own a cheap import b.c. rich doesnt means i havent played an american handmade b.c. rich i was merely stating that for the people who doesnt has over a 1000 us bucks to trow around, its just like the best low price tag guitar i ever played, and i played a lot of cheap fenders peavys ibanez ( i even own a cheap rx but its beaten up beyond recognition ) for the people that needs to keep their price tag under lets say 400 american bucks b.c. rich totally beats the crap out of a 300 or 400 ibanez or those entry level gibsons ( epiphone or something like that ).

And IF you have over a 1000 bucks or something like that yea a gibson could rule i agree but there is nothing sweeter than the american hand made b.c. rich beast ( or warlock or a 7th beast ). DT uses gibsons indeed but they are way softer this days and require alot of acoustic parts ( wich is not a particular high point in b.c. rich they are just ok ). But ultimately its just a matter of what guitar and amp gives you the sound you are looking for.

And for those going all " o yea DT uses les paul gothics " that is just a prove of how people looks for their sound not too long ago in the minds I era look at the world domination videos, Niklas uses a Jackson and im guesing its no coincidence since the minds I was so filled with fast heavy riffs, yet Fredrick used an ugly fender
So go figure...

i am not slagging off Gibsons as such, just setting straight a common misconception.

there is only one thing important: play a guitar that fits your style of playing, is most comfortable for you and sounds best in your ears. Don't play guitars because members of a certain band play them, you might get really diappointed...

oh Misanthrope,

i thought what Niklas was playing was a Heartfield, they were made by Fender during the early 90's i believe
