Name : Mark James
Location : Oakland, CA
Age : 28
Own Band : Rise & Set
Occupation : Clinical IT Analyst
Musical Tastes : Space Rock, Indie, Folk, Metal when I was younger
Favorite Bands : Failure, Year of the Rabbit, Swervedriver, Starflyer 59
Favorite Album : Fantastic Planet, by Failure
Favorite Producer : Ken Andrews mixed my favorite record from DAT on a Mackie 8 bus.
Production Experience : I've been recording for 10 years in various locations. I've worked on a few records here and there, but mainly do it as a hobby. I'm currently in the process of building a mix room in my detached garage.
Goal : I was turned on to this forum by a friend, and I was amazed at what you guys are doing direct / ITB. I am going to record a solo EP completely ITB, and it's going to sound awesome, damnit. There is a lot of great content on this board!
Production Gear : Dell Precision 690, Protools HD2, 192io and 2x 882io. Soundcraft 500 series console (currently being repaired), Universal Audio 2108, Seventh Circle Audio with 1 A12 so far, Presonus Digimax, 2x Behringer V-Verb, Midiverb II, TC Electronics M300, Valley People Gatex, DBX 266, Sansamp RBI, Countryman DI, Line 6 M13, Rode NTK with NOS tube, 2x TLM103, 2x Earthworks TSO, 2x Nady RS-4 ribbons, Audix drum kit (D6, I5, etc.), 2x SM57s, MD421, Beta 52, and more I can't remember right now
Software : I've been using Protools for 10 years and haven't found another DAW that I am comfortable with. I like the Waves SSL plugins and Renaissance plugins. I'm getting into the Nebula thing now, and am planning on creating programs for some awesome gear a friend has access to (SSL 4000, La2a, 1176, etc.)
General : Recording is a hobby and a passion for me. After recording for a good amount of time I've realized that I am a perfectionist and tend to give up in the middle of projects when they don't sound like I hear them in my head, and I'm taking steps to get over that. I'm going to start writing and producing my own music for me personally, not for everyone else. The magic is in the process no matter what the final product sounds like. I seem to have lost touch with the creative moment because I'm worrying so much about the end product.
