Who's your favorite drummer?

Richard Christy!
Someone says:
"we think that there are two drummers playing while we are listening to Death or Control Denied. Richard plays kicks and drums, Christy plays cymbals.."

hey dude, have you heard Catch-33 yet? what do you think?

I like it. I think it's definately superior to 'I' - I never got the fuss about that release. This is sort of like a blending between Nothing and a bit of the older stuff. I think they could have put a bit more work into the atmospheric section.... I'm looking at 'Sol Niger Within' in regards to that. I think that album just had the Meshuggah style nailed and sealed.

As for the drums... it didn't actively dawn on me, but if you actually listen to the drums, it sounds alot like the samples for 'Drumkit from Hell Superior' sounded. Just listen to the cymbals... I think if anything is fake about these drums, they definately give it away.

They've come a long way with drum sequencing, that's for sure.. amazing. But these days where everything is triggered, how can someone really tell the differences? In metal the bridge between machine and human is rapidly getting smaller. It's kind of ironic... human drummers are trying to sound like machines whilst the sequenced samples are trying to sound more like a real drummer.

I have a couple, but the three that stand out to me are:

Mike Portnoy
Danny Carey
Gene Hoglan (anyone who hasn't heard the single release, shitstorm, check it out! Hoglan's a beast!)

I quite enjoy the katatonia drummer also, on viva emptyness his drums are very nice, but on the last fair deal gone down it seems that the drums are a bit repetetive.

yeah, well, it's worse on the Brave muder day album, every song is practically the same, so boring. But the vocals sound like Mikael's death growls :D i was shocked when i heard it

in no particular order:

Matt McDonough
Gene Holgan
Dave Lombardo
Neil Peart
Fredrick Andersson
Andy Schroeder
Martin Lopez
Danny Herrera

Yanic Bercier-Quo Vadis(Definitely He rlz,you should definitly listen Quo Vadis and his drums)
Richard Christy
Gene Hoglan
Sean Reinard
Inferno of Behemoth

drums is maybe the part of bands i have the lowest knowledge on. i enjoy not boring drums but i hardly remember names. the most drums ive heard (impressive as in appealing to me) are the sound of perseverance drums by Richard Christ. Also i like Martin Lopez quite alot because i dig good cymbal work.
