Why The Fuck Is Satanism Related To Metal?!!

I saw Immolation at a gig last night, it was one of the best gigs I've ever seen.

I hate Religion, Satanism is a religion. Simple as that.

It's conforming to someone else's belief, be that someone who believes in God, Satan, Buddha, Allah or obeying a paedophile on a Sunday morning telling you you are going to Hell, unless you part with your cash.

FYI, Satanism is indeed (as you said) a real religion. However Satanism as defined by the Church of Satan (founded 1966 by Anton Lavey, see www.churchofsatan.com or The Satanic Bible for more detailed info) has nothing to do with following, worshipping an external deity, or giving money to people. It's about acknowledging man's carnal nature, living for this life and not some ficticious afterlife in the clouds, and indulging in things that bring you pleasure.

I have read a bit about the Church of Satan, most people are just ignorant though and just see it as something to do, In Britain we have gangs of Goths going around with upside Crucifixes and wearing Marilyn Manson T-Shirts, it's just another form of Poserdom.

Not suggesting anyone here is like that, you people obviously know what you are talking about.

I don't really need to be told to enjoy myself, to be honest.

Church of Satan, Anton LaVey... that impressed me when I was 16-17, and I still admit that it's intresting. But come on, how can you be a Satanist and not believe in god? You can't have the cake and still eat it. That's like believing in Odin but not in Tyr. It's all part of the same religion. Satan was created by christianity. You can't just take Satan because you think it's cool and make a whole new religion out of it like LaVey did. That's not Satanism, call it Egoism or something. I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just saying it's got little to nothing to do with Satan.

well i'm not a satanist myself but here's how i see it:

satanism is a response and rebellion against christianity and it's teachings, and "satan" is merely a symbol in allusion to the rebellion lucifer made against god when he disobeyed him, and was cast out of heaven.
thus satan/lucifer becomes a symbol for individuality and refusal to take orders and obey authorities. the reason for calling it satanism has its roots in the bible, yes, but satanism does not acknowledge the the bible or the existance of god and therefore satan does not exist as a creature or deity, but is merely a symbol. it's not a matter of worshiping some higher deity (that would be submission and self-contradiction) and is therefore, imo mind you, not a religion, but more of a philosophy.

then we've got lucifer-worshipers, but that's a different story.

I've thought about the same thing myself. Satanism is a mere reflection of Xtianity, take a look at the guidelines that run these communities. All reversed Xtian values and praising of the 7 sins.

Spaffe is on the right track; let me add my own thoughts. You may have been impressed, but it doesn't sound like you understood it too well. In short, Satan is an idea, an embodiement of certain values. He's a symbol. Satanists (as per LaVey/the Church of Satan) do no believe in any kind of external gods. We acknowledge than mankind creates his gods, and we choose to create or not create our own gods accordingly. We also realize that any gods we create are indeed man-made. For a more detailed explination of 'Who is Satan?' see the Satanism FAQ, second question down.

One reason Satan was chosen as the name is because the original Hebrew word means the Adversary, or the Accuser. Questioning of all things is of great importance in Satanism.

And just so everyone knows, I'm not trying ot preach or push religion. I'm just trying to make sure it's not misunderstood.

I fully agree with Aggressor

if people want to think I'm a satanist, it doesn't matter, but when they think I'm a nazi, they really annoy me....fools....
[joke]
...all of them will be sacrificed in the name of SATAN!!! *kyahahahahhah*
